Adding pickup covers to humbuckers. Potting and soldering questions.

If I add a pickup cover, does the pup need to be potted (again)? Also, soldering to the base, is this effective at eliminating most vibration and feedback that could occur? What's the best practice?

It does not need to be potted, whether again or for the first time. What is very helpful is taking double-sided tape and putting it under the cover where the slug coil is, then using a good clamp to hold the cover on as tight as you can while you solder it. That's the approach I use and I only use unpotted pickups. I have to work to make them squeal. Very stable up to Van Halen levels of gain.

Does this make them more difficult or impossible to remove later?

Slightly more difficult. Certainly not impossible. I've removed, covered, removed and re-covered several sets using this method.

What double sided tape do you recommend?

You can even use a couple layers of masking tape. You just want to keep the metal cover from touching the tops of the slugs.
