hello every one,i've been using JB hum-bucker about a week ago and i didn't really like the treble from it..so i've decided to adjust the screwpiece, but according to my experience on my previous pickups(Chinese made) after i adjust the screw it start to making some unwanted noises..so those who have ALREADY adjusting their JB PUPS do you guys experiencing like having unwanted noise OR anything bad on your pups?

p.s:I PLAY A LOT OF METAL RHYTHM AND SHREDDING..IF YOU HAVE SOME MEASUREMENT ABOUT POLEPIECE HEIGHT SUITABLE TO MY STYLE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE YOUR FEEDBACK''TQ

I've never experienced any problems after adjusting pole pieces.

Yeah. Play around with it. I've been working with them for years. Pole piece height is going to affect specific strings more than overall treble response though. Try playing with pickup height. That helps a lot too.

i've already try the height adjustment but they didn't really help..when you adjust those polepiece do you refer their height to certain measurement or just tuning them as you like?
i dont really have a good ear, seriously those days when i adjust my old pickup freak me..

I usually leave the pole pieces where they're set from Seymour Duncan and just adjust the height of them. I'm thinking if you adjusted them up and down too much maybe you got rid of some of the wax potting inside, but even if you did, the amount that would've come out, in my opinion, would be insignificant and would not (or at least should not) affect your tone, even if you're playing in front of an army of Marshall amps. Never tested this theory, however.

The usual technique is to adjust the two elevator screws to set a general top E to bottom E volume balance. Then tweak the polepiece screws so that no individual string is noticeably louder or quieter than the others.

For guitars with a steep fingerboard radius, I often pre-adjust the polepiece screws to that same radius. The two E poles will stay where they are. B and A up slightly. G and D up so that a fair bit of the screw head is visible.

Roll back the tone knob then. That will trim some high end. Whenever I adjust I just use my ear and set it to my liking.

Something weird must be going on, as the JB is one of the least trebly pickups I've ever heard. I'd try adjusting your amp.

have you got 250k pots? JB's like them. That will attenuate the top end a little.

i don't have but considering to install them i heard a lot about jb and the 250 pot..but how about the neck pickup i have 59 installed i hope it doesn't ruin it because my wiring is 1volume,1tone..

I won't mess with the 59 too much unless you're using a thick mahogany bodied guitar.

I would say, shooting from the hip, that you should drop the treble side of the pickup, and make sure that the polepieces are screwed down close to the bobbin. As you raise them that's going to sharpen the should on whatever string you raise the polepiece on.

Hope that helps,

Re: adjusting jb humbucker polepiece (TO THOSE WHO USE JB HUMBUCKER I NEED YOUR FEEDB

return each adjusting screw to flush with face of pickup
set pickup height as below

hold string down to last fret
measure each side at the E-string

JB in bridge
low E 3.8mm , high E 2.12mm

my RG has a really flat radius

but string gauges make up for the slight arc

try the poles flat then tweak the center up slightly to adjust for volume if needed
