Adrien Smith bridge humbucker - Seymour Duncan?

Was fortunate to see Maiden this last Friday and Saturday at the LA Forum. They completely tore it up and were on top form both nights. Their latest material from Book of Souls sounds great live and blends seamlessly with their classic numbers like Trooper and Powerslave.

Of course I was glued to the close up shots on the big screens every time Adrian, Dave or Janick were taking a lead. One thing that surprised me was I thought I could see the Seymour Duncan script on the black bridge humbucker on one of Adrian's white HSS Jacksons. I had thought he was a Dimarzio Super Distortion guy still and that's what his signature model comes with.

Does anyone know what Seymour Duncan's he is currently using, or if my eyesight was that bad and I was just projecting what I expected to see

Also great to see Dave getting a super thick tone from his Floyd Rose Les Paul and Adrian using an explorer shaped Jackson for a few numbers in addition to their signature super strats. Janick used his standard strat with the single coil sized JB pickups and was twirling it round his head and was up to his usual antics! Awesome and epic performance.

It's possible. I wouldn't doubt if he owns at least one guitar with a Duncan, probably a JB.

I don't know about your question. I'm just curious whether or not Adrian played his old modded Deluxe for at least a few songs. He usually does. Unfortunately, I've never seen Dave's '57 Strat in concert. I don't even know if he plays it any more.

The '57 was retired a long time ago (after the Somewhere in Time tour I believe). Think he left it encased with his parents or grandma in Britain or something.
Very interested in what Duncan he's using in there. A Custom might also be a possibility as it's not too far removed from a Super Distortion, spec wise that is.

Can't remember if he played the deluxe, he seemed to favor his white HSS signature Jacksons and was getting great tones from the explorer shaped Jackson. Dave was playing his signature Fender strats with the Seymour Duncan hot rails, and got his heaviest tones from his Floyd Rose Les Paul. He used this for most of the new stuff from Book Of Souls and it packed a real solid thump to the mix.

Really eager to find out what Seymour Duncan's Adrian has installed after being a Dimarzio Super Distortion guy for so long.

I personally want o know what is the neck humbucker in Daves 70's style black strat, I think that was my favorite lead tone for the whole concert.

Wow! H with the new Jacksons AND Duncans? Very cool. That red one is based on Phil Collen's Ibanez from 83. Smith also used a Destroyer back then.

Thanks guys. The guitar tones on the current tour are immense. Looks like all four Maiden guitarists have some combination of Seymour Duncans in their live guitars. Perhaps Adrian's use of the JB allows him to sit in the mix better with Dave and Janick. In any case they are getting a fantastic live sound.

It has a custom wound alternative 8 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. Dave's guitar tech posted it on the Iron Maiden forum.

Love this axe!! Always wanted an Ibby DT555 (I think the model was) that Phil collen played on the Pyro tour..

be curious to know what if anything was altered in the custom wound process..? I liked the Alt 8 I had..


Maiden slays in concert.. Saw them years back.. (Before Jannick, Bruce still had long hair). Yngwie opened for them.. Wondering how Bruce's voice is holding up

im assuming the altered wind to the alt8 was less turns. a hot magnet and hot wind in the neck could be muddy pretty easily

I've seen Maiden maybe more than any other band. Irvine, Long Beach, Columbus, ...I could have tried to see them in Cleveland in 2008, but my car was packed with everything in the apt. and I was leaving for home on a Friday night. I didn't have a ticket, but that hasn't stopped me in the past.

I still regret missing that show.

If you get a chance to go, do it.
