Advice for a bedroom closed back metal amp or direct recording device?

Well, as my damn direct recordin Demonizer has blown out again, I am looking for one substitute. I like thrashy crunchy passive humbucker metal sounds, the demonizer sounded pretty good but it is a pain. I do not know very much about small amps. I cannot have a big one now. I have found I only like big full closed ones. Do you recommend a little tube amp, or is it a waste? Digital? Another direct recording device (other than POD or V-AMP)?

By the way I can pick for free a korean cheap 15W one and close it, and buying some cheap distortion pedal for a while until I stop traveling around and find another band. I tried it years ago with a V-AMP plugged and it was fun, we were surprised. It cut through the mix!!!

check out the Engl Tube Preamp E530. I have tried the E530 cab simulator outputs into my DAW and it sounds ok. However, the E530 really shine when is connected to a tube power amp.

The Vox tonelabs are pretty decent. Some of the effects are whack but the amp and speaker cap simulators are usable. A Tonelab with a bunch of higher quality pedals in front can go a long way.

I think you may be looking for the Blackstar HT-5. Five watt head with line out for recording, perfect for crunchy passive humbucker metal sounds. At least take a look.

Vox Tonelab ST.

What are you recording into? Are you interested in something for just recording? Do you need something for live applications as well? I'll probably get hasseled for this but i couldn't live without my POD Live XT. It's not the most authentic tone but i couldn't do any of my writing without it. I use it with cubase and Drumm Core 3 and i've got tones of versatility. Look for them used. Super cheap and very easy to use

POD X3 Live is my choice for recording and gigging. It is very flexible for recording home and it sounds fantastic. It also provides mic and bass amp models also which is a plus.

Re: Advice for a bedroom closed back metal amp or direct recording device?

I was gonna recommend a Vox Tonelab or Valvetronix amp. Best bang for the buck, IMO.

Finally I chose an incredibly cheap Valvetronix 212 50W amp, too big for my "homeless" situation but I couldnt resist!

I cant wait to receive it!

Yes it seems nice. I have bid for one of these also, though I do not think I am going to win.

I thought 2x12 valvetronixes are 100W (VT100)? Did you get it used or new? And if you don't mind me asking for how much?

How do they sound for metal? Sound clips are highly appreciated.

Re: Advice for a bedroom closed back metal amp or direct recording device?

AD series had a 50 watt 2x12, VT series only has a 100 watt 2x12

My AD15VT rules at metal --- it has JCM 800, JCM 900, JCM 2000 (?), Mesa Rectifier, Soldano SLO, and Dumble Overdrive Special models, and they are all really good.

Re: Advice for a bedroom closed back metal amp or direct recording device?

I love my Vox Tonelab LE. I use it for daily practice and recording. There will be some who think that it lacks the balls to do "metal", but it's plenty metal enough for me.

Re: Advice for a bedroom closed back metal amp or direct recording device?

I play mostly Black Metal such as Dark Funeral, Immortal and older Satyricon and I currently run a Jackson Soloist with Duncan Blackouts Metal in Bridge and Livewire Classic II in the neck through my Line 6 POD XT Live.

It does OK, however I have not yet mastered the full creation of models on it (no idea what I'm doing and haven't fully read the manual yet). The stock amps like the Triple Rec model are "meh" at best, but the JCM800 one is good.

I currently have a Randall V2 head and am currently cab hunting for a Randall R412XLT, but am having no luck. Hopefully something comes my way soon.

Meh. Metal is more in how you play, rather than what you play.

Well. OK I'll post some. There are some youtube ones.

It is a VOX AD50VT-212 Valvetronix, new 273 euro, includes shipping to Spain from England.

Meh. Metal is more in how you play, rather than what you play.
