advice? LP style guitars?

Hi guys, its been like over a year since i've been on these forums, and I have no idea why i ever left. This is one the of the best places on the net. Since you guys never failed me in the past I wanna ask some advice. Its about that time in my life where I wanna just sell all my stuff and get some reasonable equipment, i've had it with my bad tones(mostly in the amp department). IMO the first piece of the puzzle would be a new axe. currently have a 95 MIM strat with hot rail in the bridge that i probably won't ever part ways with, but the neck is horrible and I want to get a LP style guitar to get something with a thicker sound. I have a nice hamer standard import, but i havnt touched it in over 9 months and im going to be selling it and paying for the difference for a new guitar. My budget will probably be around 450-500. I was looking at the Epiphone les pauls and those agile copies. The agiles loook really great for the price (385 shipped), but I've heard that the alot of epiphone products are either hit or miss. My local store is a sam ash and they don't have any epiphones in stock except some semi hollows. I might have to drive 45 min and check and see if GC would have any epiphones to try.

so the bottom line is for a 450-500 dollar budget would be a better choice Epi LP or an Agile AL-3000 off of rondomusic?

Re: advice? LP style guitars?

I am happy enough with my EPI standard to buy another, which I am planning on. I play mostly Fender, but will never justify paying 2500 for a Gibson.

Welcome back! First off, about selling all your stuff...if you didn't sell your first guitar yet, don't sell it.

Now about the LP's. I've never played an Agile but they get good reviews around here. As far as the Epi's go, play a bunch and see which plays best. I just recently go an Epi LP Standard and love it. Make sure to check out the MIC ones as I feel they are better guitars then the older MIK ones.

welcome back! Go play a ton of epi's until you find the ONE. It is out there. be patient. Remember, if thick is what you'll want think about the Duncan upgrade that will be coming later. For now - just worry about the feel and acoustic sound.

Look on Ebay and you can find LP Studios for a grand and Gibson LP Standards for like $1600.00. Buy used and you won't have the brand new steep LP pricetag.

Re: advice? LP style guitars?

Uh...or you could get a newish used tokai LP copy for 350ish? Those are bad-ass guitars. There's one in a shop up here for 350 (slightly used). I've heard great things about them.

But yeah, washburn idol is a very good option. Unlike gibson, washburn still sortof has something to prove...I feel like these non-fendson companies take their customers for granted a little less, you know?

Re: advice? LP style guitars?

thanks for all the info guys.

I was doing a little searching on ebay and came across those greco lp copies. anyone have experience with those? They look like a nice guitar.

Some are very nice, some aren't. Stay away from the hollow bodies. Are you looking at a particular auction?

no I wasn't looking at any particular auction. i don't have all the money for a guitar just yet. Just noticed that a bunch of em had a buy it now for around 500 and looked really nice, but looks aren't everything specially if its a POS.
