Advice needed....

I'm hoping one of you Ibanez experts might be able to clue me in on this....I have an opportunity to pick up a 1990 Ibanez Sabre, looks like a 540S, with the "Custom Made" inlay and the "Bensalem, PA" neck plate. Nice 'flip-flop' purplish finish and overall in good shape. Plays quite nicely. I know these were MIJ, assembled in the US, but with a $400 price tag, have no idea if this is a good deal or not. Any advice? Thanks!

Re: Advice needed....

Unless there are huge wear ruts in the frets, buy it. In fact, even if there is severe fret wear, buy it. At four hundred, you could afford the fret job.

Re: Advice needed....

Thanks for the advice, FF. Despite the wealth of Ibanez info on the web, I haven't really been able to nail down even the rough value of this particular guitar, but sounds like it's worth it, based on your reply.

Re: Advice needed....

Buy that thing. A friend of mine had one back in the day and it was awesome. Same paint job too.

Re: Advice needed....

Thanks H8; that's good to know - I think I'm going to go buy it tomorrow afternoon. I'll put pics up once I do! Thanks again for the advice.

Re: Advice needed....

If you have any other questions, I'd recommend going to the Jemsite.com forum. Those guys know their ****, when it comes to Ibanez guitars.

Re: Advice needed....

Thanks, WHN. I have spent a fair amount of time over there - that's actually where I found out that, despite the 'Custom Made' inlay and the USA neckplate that it was neither customer or USA made (nice marketing ploy, there) - but so far haven't dug up any info on the value. Great resource, though!

Re: Advice needed....

Thanks for the replies, EHD & Muttz....I actually went back there this afternoon on my lunch break with the intention of picking the Ibanez up, until I walked by a black '88 Kramer American Pacer that completely stopped me in my tracks. Not only did it play nicer than the Ibanez, with a neck profile much more comfortable for me, gobs of sustain, and in better overall cosmetic shape, but I was shocked when I looked at the price tag and saw it was $200 cheaper. Needless to say, the Ibanez is still there, and the Kramer is sitting in my lap! (Did I mention I'm a total sucker for 80's metal guitars?)
