Advice on shipping an amp

So I bought a Mesa Boogie DC2 (1x12 combo amp) from a guy in California and I'm getting one story after another on his shipping woes. :smack: He doesn't have the original box. So he double boxed the amp and UPS rejected the package because it wasn't boxed properly!?!? So I told the guy to go get a Mesa box from his local Guitar Center (they toss them in the dumpster). He said no luck there. So to make a long story longer.... now he said he's thinking of removing the "amp" from the cabinet and shipping them separately! He's logic is 1) the individual packages would be lighter and 2) if they drop the cab nothing will get damaged.... WTF!!!!! What of they drop the friggin amp... all exposed like that!!! This guy is soft in the head!!!

Anyway... I need advice (other than "Don't buy an amp in Cali if you live in Boston")

Any preferred methods when shipping these babies? Wouldn't it be safer to just ship the amp in one piece? Please advise.

Re: Advice on shipping an amp

I would say in one piece with the whole thing double bubble wrapped all around. Then the tubes should be taken out put into a separate box or container. The these two steps are done he should then put tubes container into the combo. Then get him to put everything into a larger box filled with packaging peanuts that surround everything. To add more protection you could get him to cover all sides of the amp with cardboard too.
