Hello All,
I am looking into purchasing a new axe for myself. I want something veristile, but also something that has shred capabilities.
My budget is around $1000
What do you guys/gals think about...
Fender
Ibanez
G&L
Brian Moore
Schecter
And and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

I've got a Schecter C-1 Elite and it's AWSOME!! At only $500 it's GREAT for the price. Schecter has a real good 7 string guitar to that you might consider. I havent played a Schecter yet that didnt sound good....IMO anyway. :)

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

for $1000, there is no reason you shouldnt be thrilled with your options ... very nice new stuff and lots of used stuff ... as was pointed out, you can find some very very nice stuff for far less than your budget, leaving money for other things ... just be patient and don't just rush for the first thing you come across ...

good luck and HAVE FUN

cheers,
t4d

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

Funny... I was on the Schecter website looking over their product line and I don't see a guitar with HSH confuraton.
Do they have a custom shop?
Or do you think I should build myself a warmoth??

How about Ibanez RG?

It's $529.00 at gutiartrader.com. So, with $1000, you can get this guitar, new pickup and hardcase.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

Hey... No problem at all SkullCrusher, I appreciate your feedback!!!
But the question remains...
How is the quality of the newer Ibanez's? I've heard mixed reviews. I would definately Duncanize it ASAP, but would I be better off buying a Jackson, G&L, Hamer, or Fender?
I know I have so many follow up questions, but sometimes cool looking and feeling guitars don't have great quality, and don't stay cool for long. I don't mind buying an inexpensive guitar as long as I know I can get many years of "HARD" use out of it.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

I think Ibanez is one of the only companies that makes stock HSH guitars. The only one that's really caught my eyes is the S470, at Musician's Friend for $450 -- more than enough for the axe and some fresh Duncans, on your budget.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

check out godins

i have the sdxt, HSH, and i couldnt be happier

i got mine for 400 as a shopused model, i see them on fleabay for 250-350 and somone just told me they go for 500+ new. leaves u w/ plenty of $$ for duncans, a hardshell, strings n things also

great guitars, nearly indesructible....if u want ill post some clips....

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

You might want to look at ESP/LTD too. Not shure if they have HSH guitars but they do have Duncans in them standart (or EMG) and some nice additional features (mostly cosmetic)
FWIW, I have an Ibanez RG270 (MIK) made in 2002 and I'm quite impressed with the build quality, not a single flaw. The Higher end Ibanezes can only be better.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

i have an older rg550 and i love it so i would definately say snag one or at least try one out. New ones are called 1550's but are the same thing.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

There really aren't a lot of companies that offer HSH setups stock. Which is why so many fans of HSH run to Ibanez... they think Ibanez is their only real choice.

Here's what I did - I grabbed my SSS Strat and hot-rodded it. If you're smart enough to play Fenders ;) you'll enjoy one of their biggest bonuses: the fact that they're practically designed to be modded up and down. I've met TONS of people who owned Strats, but I've never seen two Strats that were exactly the same.

Incidentally, I'm not sure what kind of routes Fender is cutting these days. If you can find a guitar with double swimming pools, you're golden.

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

I just wanna thank everybody for your imput. You have given me enough info to give me a direction to look into. I was leaning towards Ibanez, but after checking out the G&L site, I may have to give one of dem a test drive.
I think this summer will be quite fun for me test driving a bunch of different axes.
Thanks again everyone.
This forum RULES!!!!!

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

i think ibanez is your best choice, they make great guitars.
if i recall, washburn made a model with H-S-H and an original floyd rose for only about 400!! maple body.
duncanize it and rock out!!

Re: Affordable HSH Guitar

I reckon you're making a wise choice going with G&L
