After routing for JB can I switch back to single coil?

My Mustang was routed to put a full size JB at the bridge. That tone no longer works for me and I'd like to put a single coil back in, possibly a Jazzmaster Antiquity from another guitar. When my Luthier routed the guitar for the JB I remember him mentioning that there was no going back to a single coil due to the routing, if I remember correctly. Is that so? Am I stuck with a humbucker at the bridge?

If he routed the pickguard, you will have to buy another one.. the wood underneath is covered by the pickguard, so no problems there..

Yeah - this is all about the pick guard - not the route. And a single coil P-90 that is HB sized like a Phat Cat will go in there....

Sounds like a prail (with a couple of push pull pots) maybe in order..!

You'll need a larger route to fit a Jazzmaster pickup, probably, unless he hogged out way too much wood to begin with. Unless you go with this... Which requires no routing:

Also, those pickups will probably get in the way of the standard switches; Jazzmaster pickups are wider even than P90s, which are a really close fit with the stock switches in place. (See below: Those *aren't* Jazzmaster pickups, they're narrower. So I'd do some serious measurement, checking and consideration first.)
