Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Hi there,

What do you think is the most aggressive Wah pedal? I've been using for like 10 years the Original Cry-Baby and I like it very much. However, I find it lacks a bit of aggression/attack sometimes. Maybe the Dime? Cheers

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Honestly, anything with a q control, this includes the Dime which also has a fine tune knob and a volume boost you can set and kick in or have be on by default so there is a volume increase when you turn the pedal on. I know blues players that use that thing just because it is so flexible and useful. The Bass Wah has a q and volume control too and preserves a lot of low end, which is cool for guitar as well if you like a thicker wah tone that can still really bite with the toe down. There are high gain crybabies too and other models with the q tone controls too. With those you can turn the wah from barely making any sweep to a full on glass drill in your ear.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Kerry King says the Zakk Wylde is a really "nasty" wah pedal. Kirk Hammett's wah is pretty in your face, too (and one wouldn't expect anything less than "in your face" from Kirk's wah).

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

I'm holding out for the John McLaughlin signature wah.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Bad Horsie 2 gets the added benefit of a frequency adjuster pot. To do the same thing on a BH1, you have to unscrew the baseplate and mess wid da PCB.

Kirk's wah must be build like a tank seeing he hasn't taken his foot off of it in 20 years.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Most aggressive one I've ever used is the Snarling Dog Fire Bawl 2 Alarm Wah. It had vintage and modern wah filters, labeled as Estrogen and Testosterone, and a Hella loud boost

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

The Zakk Wylde is handy when you need to cut through a lot of gain.

The Dime is cool because it can be super aggressive or super mellow... or anything in between. You're not locked into the one sound.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

No, after Charlie Stringer passed away the company changed hands a few times and eventually folded. Thy supposedly had issues with quality control, but the one that I bought lasted through five or six years of abuse before financial issues forced me to sell all of my gear.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

I really like the Ibanez Weeping Demon. Q and shape control, fine tuner and a switch for bass/standard.

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

another vote to the crybaby from hell, set it with everything at 10 and you can wah the wahs out tha wah wah than other wahs, and still you can dial it to be mellow or vintage, or just the nastiest wah of wahs sounding so wah that almost seems like a searing yaya than a wahhing wah wah if that makes any wahhhh sense *switchs the wah wah off*

anyway, the best would be getting your guitar and some of your gear to a musci store and try the wahs there, when i bought my wah from hell i wasn't even searching for a wah, i just got to one of my local music stores to kill some time, tried some pedals and saw some wah wahs, i tried 'em all and got in love with the crybaby from hell

Re: Aggressive Wah Pedal?

Thanks for all the ideas!! I have to go to a music store and try some Wahs indeed. I tend to go towards the Dime or the Zakk I think... Thx again!!!
