While talking about my epi in one of my earlier threads somebody mentioned Agile guitars. Anyhow I checked them out and DANG those look very good for the price...I even saw a 7-string I am interested in and Their LPs look awesome too. Is it too good to be true or are they pretty good guitars for the money. Their main site says they are able to keep costs down because they don't have big name endorsees and they cut out the middleman and such.

It's true. They're great guitars. They typically sell for a couple hundred less than any other comparable brand. You get the same Korean build quality that everyone else has for less.

They're great guitars for the money, no doubt. But of course, like any other guitars, you should check them out if you can to see if you like the feel first. Their LP and Strat copies don't have identical specs to the Gibsons and Fenders, just so you know.

The last time I went there was about a month ago. I found the nuts on the lower end models to be poorly cut on a consistent basis, and that was pretty annoying. But that's the biggest complaint I have.

I don't believe that either line really belongs to Rondo, though they are the sole American distributors for both lines. When I've had questions about sepcific models in the past, Kirk has only been able to refer to information as published by Agile and SX, which would suggest that those are seperate companies with whom Rondo works, not subsidiaries of Rondo.

Ah. Somewhere, in the back fog of my memory, I thought I recalled something about Agile being made "for" them.

They do seem to be nice guitars though. I'm still hoping to cop one of those TC-630 Tele's soon.

Agile is Rondo's house brand (Made in Korea)

SX is a guitar distributor HQ'd in Spain (guitars made in China)

Both are great guitar lines for the money, and some models are great regardless of cost

Yep... Kurt (from Rondo) actually asked over at sevenstring.org what people would want before he introduced the Interceptor and Septor models. :cool:

Yeah. That's why they're made out of basswood, with longer scales and floating bridges. Ick.

so...what would be better an Epiphone or an Agile? I've owned some Epi's but could never hold on to them for long (not their fault) but I don't feel like spending so much money right now. I also understand that certain models have a maple neck instead of mahogany, what kind of difference will this make...I'm mainly experienced with mahogany necks not maple so I don't know.

I have a love-hate relationship with Epiphones. I like the neck profile, I like the dimensions, I don't like that they use alder instead of mahogany - maple. The maple necks I can live with and it's nice because you can sand the finish down... but I hate the thick poly finishes they use, and they all need setups and fret jobs. The new pickups aren't bad but they aren't anything special... new nuts, new tuners, new bridge, new pots (for some)...

So yeah you'll have a good guitar, but by the end of everything you'll have spent way too much. I think that since the Agiles are cheeper and they're Korean instead of Chinese, they're probably a better deal, but I haven't played one so they probably have a different feel and I'm not going to buy one without playing one.


Personally, I think that if you're considering an Epiphone.... you should go straight to a PRS SE or a Godin LG. You'll be happier in the end.

I'm not considering an Epiphone I'm considering an Agile...I already know what Epiphone has to offer since I've had a few over the last several years. PRS SE or Godin LG, eh...thanks for your input.

Only one is a Baritone....

But if you want standard scale, Mahogany and a stoptail, grab a Jackson DK-7 Wolbers Signature model for 150 bucks more ;)

Then have PRS or Carvin make you one (for significantly more) , or live with the extra definition that a .5" longer scale gives by adding more bass and low mids to the amp.... ;)

I personally find anything under 27" mushy for anything under C anyway...

But when you can´t find what you want in a production instrument (which seems to be the case here), well, that´s what luthiers and custom shops are for ;)
