Air Norton question

I just swaped the Breed neck pickup of my guitar(alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 24 frets, bolts on) with an Air Norton. To compare with the Breed neck, the Air Norton sounds very bright and thin, not warm and full. Anything wrong? I am using mesa amps. I am really into the tone of liquid tension experiment, but now it seems impossible.

Re: Air Norton question

I have both the Breed and the Air Norton. And yes, compared to the Breed I would say anything is thin and bright.

Re: Air Norton question

I've tried an Air Norton in a few bright guitars, and I think it's anything but thin and bright. That said, I've never tried the breed, might be the supa phat neck pickup.

Re: Air Norton question

Perhaps I need to edit my last post. I would not say that Air Norton is thin or bright, but it´s 12k compared to Breed 17k. And the Breed is developed to cover up for basswood bodies and Floyd trems, extreme mids and bass. Air Norton is a nice clean and balanced pickup, more classic, so to say. Sounds great in the bridge of my Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion.

It must be a phase issue. The Air Norton's one of Dimarzio's warmest-sounding neck pickups. The wiring should be checked once again.

He was talking about the Breed NECK model, which is 10.14K. The Air Norton's wound hotter but it has a softer magnetic field because of the Airbucker trick.

Re: Air Norton question

The colored wires on you pickup may be mislabelled, they're that way on my Invader, the White and Black wires are switched up. Try switching your north and south ends, see if that makes a difference, if it doesn't then try it with all the other wires.

Agreed. I tried the Air Norton in the neck position of my Wolfgang. Took it out because it was too dark.

Sorry, missed that. :blackeye: . Still the neck version of Breed has some 325 mv output, compared to Air Norton 270 mv. So it will give less volume. But guess you are all right: there is a problem with the wiring.
