Alice In Chains Unplugged - Vocal effect?

During Alice In Chains' Unplugged set, Layne used a vocal effect on the end of Sludge Factory. It looked like either an alternative mic or a small box that he seemed to sing through into the regular mic.

Any idea what it was?

....I'm guessing maybe he used a Talkbox patched off of Jerry Cantrell's signal? I seem to recall that effect or something similar on "Man in the Box" or so it wouldn't be the first time you'd hear a talkbox from them.

Not seeing the performance and (unfortunately) not being terribly familiar with the AIC catalogue...I suppose I'm really not much help to you.

it's just an old mic, if you look close you can see it in his hand. It's that 1940's radio sound i only know about from Loony Toons reruns.
