alien INVADERS

So I recently popped a couple INVADERS in an old Jackson King V Pro. But i gotta say they sure are muddy sounding, Put a 250k in to begin with and it was to low and dark. So i slapped in a 500k and that was a bit better but it still just sounds odd to me. I have a buddy with a seven string invader and boy it just shredds wall paper down. But for some reason im not getting that kind of result. Im using one VOLUME POT @500k no TONE POT.

Can anyone give me some input please?

Not sure how close it is to the strings, but you might think of moving it down a bit. I'll tell you that will bring a bit more top end out of it and give it a slightly air-y-er tone with more sustain due to the lower string pull. Theres' a tone of string pull on the invader due to the powerful ceramic mag and the huge cap screws. That might be what your yearing. Also what kind of guitar is the 7 string?

welcome to the forum!!

500k is a much better choice than the 250k. try lowering it as micah suggested and see what happens. how far are the tops of the pole pieces from the strings?

Re: alien INVADERS

Don't forget amp settings though.... with mine, the presence and eq make a huge difference. Ease off on the lows and mids and see what happens. It'll have that nice grind to it before you know it!

Re: alien INVADERS

I knew a guy who used to use one in his flying V. If I remember right he had it fairly low for a bridge PUP. I also know he tweaked his amp EQ settings with that guitar I think he lowed the bass, upped the treble and presence. Good Luck!

Re: alien INVADERS

My Buddys seven string is an older ESP Ltd F style w/ the floyd rose in it, I think its basswood.

My strings are little more than a credit card space away from the oxide screws. My buddies 7 string is about oh id say 1/4" away or more and his low B is articulate and crushing. I tried it on mine but it seems i lost some gain the further from the strings i went, but the tone poped up a bit more this way. Im using 54-10 strings as well so maybe upping the Gauge would help too? I mean i Love this PUP, i Love the look and I love the way it turns my amp into a sonic flame thrower but i would like the Lower strings to clean up a bit just a bit.

Thanks to all of who who have replied.

Re: alien INVADERS

Try to take as many variables out of the equation as possible.

Use the same string type and size as your buddy.

Same pickup height.

Try to use his amp as well.

Same tuning too.

There will still be some things you can't control. Your guitars might have different woods, different scale lengths, etc. It might just be that you just can't match his guitar because of these differences.

I would definatly lower your pickup!! Thats really close to the strings and its probably affecting the sustain and acoustic resonance of the guitar as the magnetic force is tugging on them. That alone might get you in the ball-park of what your missing from his tone--

Re: alien INVADERS

Invaders have the tendency to be dark in muddy in some guitars and situations.
