Hi!

Please post all your recommendations and comments about
HBs that keep the mud out and articutation in.
Neck an Bridge

I have no Idea about them, but I guess the following could be in that category:

Dimarzio Eric Johnson
Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell
Seymour Jazz
Seymour screamin demon

Any more to check out?
Any experiences ?

It's a pretty odd question. You're basically suggesting everyone who uses a JB,Distortion,Invader,59,Alnico II,Custom, Custom Custom, Custom 5 etc, etc ETC, is playing a guitar with a muddy pickup?

Which is probably why no one's replied to this thread.

What exactly is it you want to know? Be more specific, rather than suggesting every SD pup is muddy! :)
From my own experience, none of them have been muddy. That's a problem they simply don't suffer from, but maybe that's my amp and settings.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

GFS Protube neck HB is really clear and very chimey.

Also the GFS Bigmouth that i had in the bridge was very clear sounding

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Get an EQ pedal. Dial in the cut, dial out the mud. Any pickup can be tweaked to be mudless.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Demon and Custom stay tight and articulate for me. And my guitars are tuned in C standard on a 24 3/4" scale.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Given my experience, I would have to say any Suhr humbucker.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Only my opinion of course, but a Zhangliqun PureHandwound fits the bill of what you're asking. This pickup continues to amaze ans inspire me the more time I spend with it.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Just my n00bish two cents, but a lot of it depends on the guitar and amp; it's a whole system to consider. The same pickup can sound muddy in one guitar but perfect in another -- or bright in one, and perfect in another. Anyway, I've tried a lot of mods, but I'm finding that careful EQ (easy to overdo!) is probably the best solution, as alex1fly said.

True.. however there are humbuckers that take care of the mud everthing else being equal. Equalisers also make alot off diff.. I have to aggree with you.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Beg to differ, your Imperial Majesty, but I replied to the thread. Am I on your ignore list?

Hehehe, no sorry, I didn't mean it literally, just that not many people had responded to him. :newangel:

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

From what I understand, "mud" is basically excessive low frequencies. Artie's de-mud mod, or variations of it, can dial this out easily.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

Well first of all I didn't want to say all our precious HBs ar muddy etc. No insults intended ( isn't there a Demudding HBs thread in the Forum).
For me and my Class A Boogie in saturation a boomy lowend and a top that some would call sweet (and I would call nonexisting : )) on some HBs just won't fit in. just goes uuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm

I'm talking twang, sparkle and chime on clean. And attack, articulation and Harmonics on drive.

yes, I have a treblebooster...

hmm.
More clearly now?

Yep, I'm headed out to buy a Jazz neck as soon as Guitar Center opens. Goodbye, mud! :flush:

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

New Duncan cost: $73
Artie's de-mud mod cost: $0.50

People should be able to pick out humbuckers because they like their general character. Little things like being a bit boomy/muddy can be fixed easily enough.

Re: All about Humbuckers without mud

my 2 cents is i normally use a lower output humbucker in the neck on the few axes i have with 2 buckers... one Warmoth axe i use has a Dimarzio Classic Cover PAF F spaced bridge model in the neck and it is great!!!! i thru it in as it was a PU i bought for cheap at a stores sale.... i have a PAF Pro in the bridge and a Lace Sensor in the middle... really nice combo... it's one of only 2 of my 22 solid bodies i have Dimarzio's in... the rest have Duncans mostly....

but for most neck models i prefer lower output.... i use a fair bit of bass, gain and midrange so the neck postition is always more Cream sounding then anything!
