I consider my top 3 best-sounding guitars my old LTD EX-401, Ibanez RGA121, and my current Gibson Les Paul Tribute.
Granted, I've never owned a truly high-end guitar. But all of mine have had these specs, mahogany body and maple neck. My Gibson and Ibanez had rosewood boards as well, and the EX-401 had a Pau Ferro board (close enough). The Gibson and the Ibanez have maple tops as well. The EX didn't. The Gibson and the EX both have tune-o matics. The Ibanez had the old Gibraltar Plus, which was pretty much a fancy tune-o/wraparound, probably made out of Zinc.
What I consider a good sounding guitar is something that sounds full, fat, and growly, yet with some aggressive pick attack and definitilon.
A honorable mention goes to an old EC-401 that had a mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood board, and tune o matic.
What I've come to realize I don't like is the sound of are ebony boards. Had them in a Epiphone, a Chapman, a PRS SE, and an EC-1000 they all sounded kinda harsh and dry.
Does anyone have similar experience?
