All tube Blues amps!!!

Upon the suggestions of a few Seymour Duncan users, I have re thought and taken back my decision for a new amp, which was the Marshall DSL.

What I need is:

-Good bluesy tones (traditional stuff AND harder more rocky blues, kinda like what slash does but I m not lookin to nail his tone--just an example)
-Preamp, I dont wanna have to crank the sucker to get some drive!
-Reliable
-Price MUST BE UNDER $1000 (no exceptions, absolute limit) I hate spending too much
-Clear, dont want it too sound muddy or anything as i like all my notes on chords to be heard
-Clean doesnt need to be crystal, but good enough for blues

Some of you guys said I could do better than the DSL so I figured what the hell and see what you guys suggest. I was thinking a JCM 800? Dunno.

What are your suggestions???

Thanks in advance

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

Can a used Marshall RI1987 head be bought for that??

I don't know, can it? Forgive my ignorance hahaha :laugh2:

I went to ebay and I'm seeing JCM 800s go for under $1000 so...

any suggestions are good, id say im also interested in those Engl Screamers Marin has... Which Ive seen are goin for under $1000

Help!!!

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

I've been using 1982 JCM 800's since, well, 1982 LOL !!! For Me, they are the right amp. I use the single channel 2204 Heads, and use old TS-808's to push them. I set my amps up pretty clean, and the 808 does the rest. Lot's of folks use attenuators with them, but I like using the TS-808. This way, I get cleans suitable for my style, and I can push the amp into the desired amount of overdrive for my tastes. I'm pretty much solely a Les Paul guy, and I've stuck with this combination of amp and pedal for years. ...:)

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

The early 80's JCM 800's, if they're in proper working order, for under $ 1,000, are a Steal !!!! ( In my opinion )...........:)

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

I have a ENGL thunder 50, it is the same as the screamer. The only difference it is that the screamer has a different volume for the each of the two dirty channels. And the thunder only has one for both but it has a spring reverb instead.

I Highly recomend the ENGL's. Mine it is awesome from cristal cleans to total overdrive, it has a very warm sound with every setting.

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

Maybe a Rivera-era Fender like the Twin II?

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

engl would rock

for much much cheaper, but tonally jsut as good if not better

crate vinatage series, i know, its a crate, but trust me and the other guys on here with them and just give them a try. they sound perfect for you

a great bluesy/bluesrock gain channel, and cleans that are better than good enough for blues. they have pre-amps, they are reliable (in my experience) they arent muddy, and in general, they rock.

give onea try, i dont know about the newer vintage series, but the mid 90's vintage clubs are excellent amps, check out harmony central, or the other guys who have them. vintage club 30 and 50 are the best......

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

Someone mentioned the Peavey classic 50 - I would add to that the Peavey Delta Blues amp - it would definitely nail the blues stuff your looking for but I don't know about the slash stuff - you'd have to try it with a pedal. Anyway you could get one of those for under 500 and they are awsome for blues.

peavey classic 50!
exactly what i was thinking. Very underpriced, amazing blues tone, and harder rock tones as well as beautiful cleans. Replace the speakers with some greenbacks or GB12s and tubes, and this amp is amazing. :13:

Re: All tube Blues amps!!!

Peavy classic 50 is very cool.

I would reccomend a bassman halfstack like mine, it sounds perfect except for the 'no cranking' thing... its non-master volume. :(
