Alnico 4 magnets - which way round to install?

Got a couple of A4 magnets here courtesy of Lew, and want to swap on into in my Custom. I've read the magnet swap guide, but just want to double - the thin side with the pen mark is N, right? And this faces the side with the non adjustable poles?

thanks!

That I do not know. What I would do is slide the old magnet most of the way out and then put the new magnet up against the old one and see which way they are attracted to each other. When you find that, install the new magnet facing in that same direction where they were attracted to each other. Lew

Thanks Lew. That was what I thought, but I thought I'd ask.

I'd just lay the new magnet on top of the pickup between the pole pieces. Whichever way it repels is the way you want to put it in. You want the new magnet to have the same polarity as the old one, and north repels north.

Maybe that would work, but it's the thin, long edges that are the actual magnetic poles tho. Lew

can you use a compass to find direction of magnet sides?

Yep, works like a charm. I got mine for a few bucks from the camping section of Target.
