Alnico 5 mag in an Alternative 8

Has anyone tried this? I'm happy with my alt 8, just curious if any of you have tried it, what it might sound like.

you have any problems with your highs with that pickup? i just traded one for a JB and it was a nice change, the low end might not be as big but it seems clearer that the Alternative 8.

i bet the alnico 5 would lessen the lows and give more room for the highs to shine brighter.

I gave Super rad stuff a alterative 5, I am sure he will chime in about it.
He said it had less lows, and was slightly scooped in the mids.
(I never tried it as a-5)

well i tried it in an SG, which already is lacking in bass because of the position of the bridge pickup, and since it's a mahogany guitar it's a very midrange-centric guitar. that said, the alt.5 sucked in it since there was no mids coming from the magnet, and not enough highs from the wind. so what i basically got out of it was a very bassy sounding bridge position that lacked bass, if that makes sense:dunno:

i'm sure it'd work out well in something like a superstrat or somesuch.

What Super Rad Stuff said, i guess a ceramic would be the better choice for the Alt. 8.

Any one tried it?

Interesting. thanks for all the info everyone. I don't have problems with the highs at all, surface54, but they do have a unique sound to them which I like. I've been a JB user for years, and I really liked the knife like pinch harmonics I got out of it. I do like the Alt 8's rhythm and muting tone much better than the Jb's thought. I was just curious what an a5 magnet would sound like with the windings of the Alt 8.

+1 for the ceramic idea. I think ceramics are my favorite mags, I could put them in just about anything. They serve best for metal in my opinion.

Yeah, I think I may dissect my Super Distortion and try its big ceramic mag in my alt 8 for kicks.

Anyone else try A5 or Ceramics in an Alt-8?

I have an A8 and an X2N, and have been thinking about swapping the two, just to see how it is. Haven't had the time to do it yet, but if I do I will post results.
