Alnico 8 with PAF winds

Prayin' to Cheeses
Sorry if this is a dumb question. So I recently put a custom 8 in an SG. Well the tone and eq profile is amazing. Love the pickup and I am not likely to change it in *this* guitar. But my understanding is that the C8 is a Duncan Custom with the A8 mag swap. And the Custom is a hot pickup to me.... I have never used hotter pickups than WLH or, perhaps Gibson tarbacks. Noticed that it does not clean up like my lower output gear, and the dynamics are exaggerated. (realizing this is playing style too but hey I am old and set in my ways)

If I wanted "vintage" output but the A8 chunk/ tone profile - in the bridge position - what to do?

I am far too stupid and clumsy to do a mag swap on my own. Is there a custom shop order that will get me there?

Re: Alnico 8 with PAF winds

The answer is: an A8'59 bridge.

Your can order it as a Custom Floor Shop item through your favorite Duncan authorized dealer.

How did your get that Custom 8 of yours anyway? Was it a "homemade" one?

HTH,

No it was a Custom shop build that I bought from an ebay dealer. It's a great sounding pickup. For this particular guitar I wanted higher output and it's great. Exactly what I wanted. But in the future I might want a similar sound but with lower overall output, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the recommendation. A8 59 bridge, via the custom shop. Now to find the right guitar to put it in..... :)

You don't need to deal with the custom shop and pay that price for an A8 '59. Any SD dealer can order it as a shop floor custom for around $10 more than a standard '59.

An A59' could be very good , I didn't try it , but I tried A8 in the Screaming Demon and Jazz neck , and it is awesome :
even EQ , strong and clear attack , cleans up very well with volume pot .
