Alnico II pro or Seth?

I'm looking for a nice and warm humbucking pickup with smooth highs and a nice but not muddy bottom end for my Epiphone Flying V. I'm thinking about an Alnico II pro or a Seth Lover. Please advise.

I'd go Seth if you want a covered pickup and AIIPro if you want an uncovered pickup. Lew

Re: Alnico II pro or Seth?

it sounds like you really discibed the alnico 2 pro though the seth will get that same kind of sound. the best way to discribe the a2p is to think of slash's smooth solo tone

The Alnico II was my first thought, but I've been hearing such great things about the Seth. Then there is the matter of covers. I suppose I could order one from WD or something if I needed to. The cover might damp the Alnico II Pro too much though. Hmm....

Re: Alnico II pro or Seth?

The Seth is available with gold covers. I have several sets in gold in stock. Someone here was saying that they thought the AIIPro was brighter than the Seth but lacked the complex mids of the Seth. I use the Seth myself and couldn't be happier. I have never tried the AIIPro and Seth in the same guitar so I can't really compare them. Lew

I put a cover on an Alnico II Pro neck and it did not noticeably change the sound. On bridge pickups though I found adding a cover makes significant difference.

Quick question, and sorry for the hijack, but do Alnico II Pros have logos on if you don't specify otherwise? Presumably they are available without logos.

From what I gather they're classed as 'vintage output' pickups and therefore don't have logos on.

I'll put it this way, I've never seen an A2P on any of Slash's LP's that does have a logo :D

All this talk of you, your LP Classic, and A2P's is giving me GAS for a pup change in my Gordon Smith :D

I think its going to be the Seth then. I dont necessarily need brighter but I do need to cut through and the mids will do that. Do the gold covers generally cost more?

A gold Seth set or CC/Seth in gold is killer. After I installed that combo in my honeyflame Paul, my first comment was "Oh, yes."
