So I bought this Mary Friedman PRS SE on the cheap, it had all the stock electronics and it sounded like open ass!!!!

I pulled out all the electronics...put in new CTS 500k pots with Russian NOS PIO caps, Swithcraft toggle and jack.....

AND SEYMOUR DUNCAN ALNICO II PROS!!!!!

OMG!!! Totally different guitar!!!! This guitar went from shrill and thin TO warm and smooth!!!! SD Alnico IIs have pretty much been my favorite SD pickup for many years! FOR GOOD REASON!!!

This was a guitar that played great but sounded horrible.....now its a keeper!!!

I feel you man! I did the exact same thing about a decade ago on a top line Epiphone I had at the time. It just breathed a new life into the instrument all together.

By far one of my favourites from SD

Have fun with it bro!

My all-time favorite as well. Sounds just as good in a set neck 24.75" as a bolt-on 25.5". Great for blues, jazz, and rock and everything in between.

Seymour Duncan pickups........my favorites and my go-to ALWAYS.

Re: ALNICO II PROS IN MY PRS SE....WOW!!!!!

Right.. just what I need, I have a Jazz lying around with no extra guitar... :D

Pin this, brother: If you ever, EVER decide on parting ways with that PRS, please let me know first.

I'll work it out somehow.

Re: ALNICO II PROS IN MY PRS SE....WOW!!!!!

Two more sets I like in those PRS singlecuts are the Seth Lover Set and another combo with a Full Shred Neck and a Dimarzio Air Zone bridge. Never found a Duncan that matched the Full Shred Neck, and that includes the Full Shred Bridge. Also never found a Dimarzio neck that matched the Air Zone bridge as well as the Full Shred. The Air Zone takes the natural notes on a PRS neck that break over into this great harmonic sustain and makes them immortal.

A2P's are one of my favorite Duncan's, along with Seth's and WLH. A2P's should get a lot more recommendations.

I am glad to hear that i am not the only one that think the SE series of PRS guitars have thin and weak sounding pick ups.
I changed the stock Santana-SE units (i can not find any specs on these) out for a set of Seth Lovers, and it is a completely diff instrument now.

Looks like we are in the exact same SD boat.

The A2P's, Seth Lover's & WLH is by far my fav Duncan unit.
Unlike you, i like the fact that the A2P's are sooo low-key. I would hate for them to become every ones darling SD pick ups.

i put a set of a2p's in a 68 ventura 335 and they changed the guitar. they are one of the best seymour makes.

Cool axe and glad you love the tone now!! I forgot they even made this guitar.. short lived I think.?? the neck thick on it?

I always gravitated towards hotter pickups (except I use alot of 59b's in neck position. But I have a WLH set in my LP and love it

Re: ALNICO II PROS IN MY PRS SE....WOW!!!!!

If I ever get bored of the Custom in my Ibanez SZ, I'll go dual A2 Pros. The neck sounds terrific as it is.
