Alnico Magnets in 'Designed by Gibson' pickups?

I can't find much info or specs on these pickups. Are they A2 or A5?
Is there a difference in magnet quality compared to what S. Duncan uses?

I plan on experimenting a little with my Custom but I like to know exactly what I'm putting in there.

I think that they are Alnico V or ceramic. It depends on what they are modeled after, the 490/498 series, or the 496/500 series.

Don't take my word as gospel though, as I have been wrong in the past. :burnout:

These pickups came stock in my Epi LP Custom, they had a sticker on them saying: 'Designed by Gibson in the USA' The only info I have found on these pickups is that they have Alnico magnets in them and enlameled wire. Both A2 or A5 is good as long as I know for shure what it is.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that they are Alnico 5...I just don't see Gibson using Alnico II in pups for an epiphone...no offence, but I just don't see it...intruth I would have thought that they were ceramic, but if you say that they are alnico then I would guess that they are 5's.

Holy ****, I don't know what Custom I have now but this is pickup swap turned out great!
I think it's save to say that I don't really like ceramic magnets.

I swapped out the magnets and It's definately Alnico, my best guess would also be A5 since I raised the mids on my amp, and the pickup sounds very similar to the '59n.
Eveything just sounds sooo much better now! Cleans, Distortion riffs, Lead, the whole bunch.

Thanks for the input, you make a very good point there.
Stock Epi pickups are probably ceramic but the 'designed by Gibson' pickups are Alnico and aren't half bad.
