alnico5 and 8 fullshred comparison clips!

My first impressions of the a8 fullshred is that it's a definite improvement. I immediately noticed that the output increased, which is actually too bad since I thought the normal fullshred had just the right amount. The lower output is what made it a players pickup however, and as a result everything seems easier with the a8. Eq wise there is a large increased in low mids, and the treble character has changed to that of an a2. What that translates into with the fullshred is a much, much better lead tone. Where the fullshred's vocal mids used to sound sort of nasal, it now sounds full rich and singing, yet undeniably vocal. The decreased treble makes it better for fast muted rhythms since the crunch no longer resides exclusively in the high end and upper mids. That also applies to leadwork since at times the treble on the a5 version turned into a fizz that overwhelmed fast single notes. However, the increased power in the mids and output also make it lose the slightest bit of clarity- to be fair though I have not adjusted amp settings AT ALL so I'm sure that's an easy fix. Clean, and overdriven it combines so beautifully with the aph neck that I almost wanted to cry when I heard it- gorgeous! What's lost though is the quack when both pickups are split. Overall, the a8 makes the fullshred a lot sweeter and a lot fuller. The a5 version is more nasal and a little more open. The only thing I miss on the a5 version so far is the quack of the split sound and the medium output- easy to give up considering the lead tone on the a8 version is TO DIE FOR. Maybe tomorrow I'll record a real amp instead of just the podxt.

Here are the clips I made today-

the first half of each solo was done with the tone knob rolled back. The track titled "quickclip a8" is in comparison to the bottom clip which was done through the same patch with the a5 version. Let me know what you think! Are podxt clips even helpful?

Re: alnico5 and 8 fullshred comparison clips!

The FS with the A8 sounds much better under high gain IMO. It had more clarity to me honestly, just a hint. The A5 sounded darker to me also.

Maybe I am crazy.
