Alt country/americana/session work

Chickenwings

Alnico 6/8
i got a call from a singer who wanted some lyrics harmonized and turned into a country song. I wrote and arranged this backing to fit.
He liked it so much he ended up asking the studio for an instrumental copy of the recording so here it is.
Martin Acoustic, 335, some resonator for the lead break, jazz bass, pedal steel (my great friend John Stuart on pedal) and some delicious brush drumming from Jake Cook.
I used John's old princeton with a touch of verb and trem for the 335. I used the same amp with a slower trem speed for the resonator and added a touch of that at the mixing stage to fatten and dirty up the acoustic sound. The martin is single mic mono. The bass is flatwound strings direct into the desk via a sexy tube compressor.
Enjoy!

There's a big difference between Country and Alt-Country. At this point, Alt-Country is pretty much it's own genre. It has as much in common with rock as country, and some of it can even border on psychedelic.

I dig this a lot. This kind of stuff is pretty much all I've been listening to lately. I LOVE the pedal steel and the reso. The trem was perfect on the 335. Do you happen to know what amp was used for the pedal steel? I'm trying to decide what to use for my pedal steel.

Re: Alt country/americana/session work

Yeh he normally uses a peavey solid state thing that I believe is specifically for pedal. I dont know the model. He used to use a 400 watt 1x15 combo but that died. This is a curent model maybe 150 watts 1x12? I dunno for sure but its whatver the curent peavey ss steel amp is

Nice, I've heard good things about those Peavey steel amps. There are about 5 or 6 different models I believe.

Re: Alt country/americana/session work

The playing is great and the production is nice as well. I'd like to hear it with vocals.

Re: Alt country/americana/session work

Haunting.... I've always liked your stuff and this is no exception. Fantastic job!

Re: Alt country/americana/session work

thanks fellas.

matt...i just put a new eminence neodymium speaker in that steel amp, so i got to have a good look at it. The model name is a Nashville 112. John reckons the neo speaker makes a night and day difference btwo.
