Alternate Picking

My picking is pretty bad, I tend to pick down every string, even when moving up a string. I watch Hendrix pick, and it looks like he only alternate picks when soloing and strumming, though I may be wrong. What is your ratio for downpicking to uppicking? I'm having trouble getting into the habit of doing both and don't really get when to pick up after picking down. eeeeeelllp :smoker:

The only way to break the habit is to do it and there's no way around it. Just start alternate picking everything. You don't have to follow an exact up/down pattern, it's called economy picking. You use alternate picking, but you stroke whichever works the best and fastest at that time.
