Alternative Strat-wiring

Re: Alternative Strat-wiring

Thank you very much, I'll give this a try somewhere this week. I'm getting the necessary hardware this tuesday. I'll keep you up to date on the results.

Re: Alternative Strat-wiring

Hi Artie,
I've tried out the wiring scheme two weeks ago, but couldn't get it to work. All I got was a very annoying loud buzz (short circuit, I guess) that wouldn't go away, despite some little wiring mods I tried. Either the switch I used was different from the one in the scheme you gave me, or my pickups are different (they not only use red and white wire, but also a bare shielding wire, in which they differ slightly from many other singlecoils). I took the guitar to my local guitar repairman right away, and got it back today...with a new 5-way switch and a series/parallel switch...
I told him that's not what I wanted, but he explained he couldn't get it to work either, despite trying a different switch and some other options. So unfortunately, no Tele-switching and no 3-pickups-at-a-time. A like it this way too, though (luckily). I DO want to try my first plan once though. I'll take the guitar to another guitar repairman once. He's very fond of experimenting with wiring options, I think he'll be able to work it out. I'm just very curious about the sound options that other schematic would offer. Until then, I'll have to settle with the current wiring scheme.

Thank you very much anyway! :beerchug:

Re: Alternative Strat-wiring

I take back what I said in my previous post! I wrote that BEFORE I had restrung the guitar and plugged it in. I'm NOT happy at all with what the repairman did! It's worse than I thought, and worse than he tried to make me believe :yell:

- I wanted to keep the tone controls on the neck and bridge pickups, he wired them to the neck and middle pickups;
- I wanted a three way Tele-style switching option, I got normal five way Strat-switching;
- I wanted a three way DPDT to add the middle pickup in both parallel and series, I got a f***ing PHASE SWITCH!!! :smack:

I'm taking the guitar back this saturday and will demand either my money back or everything wired the way I ordered it.

Re: Alternative Strat-wiring

Got it back today, and this time it's exactly the way I wanted it! Artie's schematic was applied, but slightly altered to suit pickups with a +, - AND ground (as this at first caused short cirquit). Except for that, however, the schematic is superb! Thanks alot, you are a genius :notworthy:

Re: Alternative Strat-wiring

One of the new Burns models that looks like a Tele has two 3/5 way switches. I am not sure what options it gives though?
