Alvarez electrics....anyone?

I was going through a local paper-ad for guitars and came across an ad for an Alvarez ASG Model 2 strat-like guitar with S-S-H, made in the U.S., for $200. Has anyone here at the forum had any experiences with these guitars? Is that a good deal for an American-made axe? Comes with a hardshell case the guy says both are in excellent shape. Alder body, maple neck w/rosewood fretboard, and is supposed to have a mahogany black-cherry quilted top.
I can't find anything online about hese guitars (maybe not looking in the right direction?), and I'm wondering if they're made any more?

Thanks for any help!

....Bob

They're cool axes. My bro's got that axe in a sea foam green finish with a white pickguard.

His came with a Wilkinson VS100 and a set of locking Kluson-a-likes.

It playes well, and sounds surprisingly fat for a strat. He loaded it with a pair of Fender 57/62's in the neck and mid and a PG+ in the bridge.

The neck plate says it's from St Louis, but they're MIK. Check the one you're planning on buying.

ah.......the 'ol "neck-plate-made-in-the-U.S.A.-but the-guitar-MIK" trick, eh? No wonder Alvarez doesn't have anything about 'em on their website.

It's not like I need another guitar right now, but I thought if it was actually worth more than what the guy was asking for it that maybe it might be a worthwhile investment. It does have kind of a different but neat body style to it. I still might go check it out.

Thanks for the response!

It's definately a cool body design. Kinda like a strat-meets-tele-meets Jazzmaster in some spots.

It's definately worth the $200. It's an awesome back up axe if you dig big necks and a tones that's fatter than a strat.
