I have 2 sets of pickups: 2 P-rails w/ all options as 1 set & a Cool Rail HB tapped to a single coil as the other set. Each set has its own vol, but share a common tone. I want to add a 3-way just before the shared tone. See attached photo of the underside of the pickguard. The 2 white wires going back to the tone are hot wires. You can see this in the attached photo.
I think, and tell me if I am wrong assuming this, that I can feed these 2 wires into an on on on mini switch on their way to the shared tone. This would give me the ability to switch from one set to another, and also be able to run both sets from a middle switch setting on the mini. Right now it is set up with all pickup outputs going back to the tone and out to the output jack. There is too much time lost turing the vol of one set down and the vol of the other turned up. So, can this be done using the third diagram on the SD wiring site under "other wiring diagrams 3-way translations." ? I cut this image out to show you here, but when the software I used for translation
watermarked it and blew its size up to over 300k, I couldn't upload it here
because this site has a maximum upload rule of not being more than 100k
Anoher related question pertains to the type of mini switch to use. I understand it should have 'on on on' capability with 6 terminals on the backside. I am leaning towards a particular switch shown on the left in the attached photo because it has a flat blade switch that will be much easier to grab on the fly without my looking down. This switch is labeled by the vendor as on on on; they also call it a DP3T. It does only have 6 terminals on the backside as you would expect on a DPDT. Some web commenters say this vendor might have it misrepresented, and that a true DP3T would have many more terminals. I show a photo of that switch in the attachments. The more typical mini DPDT is shown in the 3rd attachment, and this is the way I've always seen them.
If this entire concept is feasible, I would rather have the flat bladed one VS the shorter "bat" variety. I'm hoping one of you will say, "Hey, Cosmos, a DPD3 IS the same as a DPDT---it's just a case where a vendor hypes his product up to make it seem pallatible to knuckleheads". I guess I am one of the knuckleheads.
Many thanks for your valued opinions on these 2 roadblocks I am facing.
