Amateur jazz trio recordings

My musician friends and I got together for a rehearsal and I brought along my Zoom H2 to record it. Lo and behold, I took our least crappy takes and releasing them for your listening pleasure (or whatever you want to call it.

We have a bad habit of rehearsing once every hundred years or so, so there are plenty of mistakes. But I think they're decent takes for a couple of lazy highschool kids.

The songs include There is No Greater Love, Footprints, Relaxin' at Camarillo and There Will Never Be Another You. My friend is playing guitar and I'm playing bass on the first two, and vice versa on the latter two.

Comments are appreciated, thanks!

Re: Amateur jazz trio recordings

So..I had a quick run on 3 songs.

I really like your tone. It's a pity that oftentimes you guys come out of the groove because, I think there's some huge potential in your playing. I don't know how serious the others are about jazz but try to play more often together :)

Currently I'm into Mike Moreno's music http://www.myspace.com/m_moreno and Julian Lage http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=129433886 (Check out "Clarity"!!! :))

Just some inspiration. Lage played with Gary Burton and I'm transcribing the theme and his solo from the song "Syndrom". Perhaps I will finish it soon and send it to you. Oh, I could send you the chord-melody of "Body and Soul" I wrote. Should be able to scan it tomorrow.

Yeah, I think our biggest problem is having a place to rehearse. The whole issue with parents pops up sometimes leaving us with no place to go. We all love jazz and we're starting to book gigs around town, hopefully our playing will kick off sometime soon.

And believe it or not, we were playing through a Super Champ XD. It's a hell of an amp for 3 bills.

I love Moreno and Lage. And I'd love to see/hear your Body and Soul arrangement, too. Have you heard of Gilad Hekselman? He is definitely my favorite modern guitarist, definitely check him out if you haven't already.

Thanks for the comments!

Re: Amateur jazz trio recordings

The Fender amp seems to be a great amp, I love the sounds you get out of it.

Thanks for introducing me to Hekselman, great music!

Re: Amateur jazz trio recordings

This sounds just great, Steven! My daughter and I have been grooving to your music all morning long. Your phrasing is excellent.

Re: Amateur jazz trio recordings

You should get together more. For your age and that genre of music, you do well.Nice playing.

Hey, since I finally got tired of just banging on power chords a little over a year ago, I've been concentrating on blues and heavily on jazz and jazz rock. I'm 24 and I'm admittedly jealous of your talent, but it's also inspiring. I have a lot of catching up to do! Great, great stuff.

Re: Amateur jazz trio recordings

Awesome. I wish the guys I played with wanted to do more straight ahead jazz like this.
