amazing what ya can take for granted - Uberkab content

thought of trading the Bogner to hasten the acquisition of a CS strat in time for my birthday in a little while

so, I went to my T-75-loaded Paradise 212 to give it a good scrute and see if the two Celestions in there could substitute for the beast, with some knob twiddles to compensate.

no.

For cleans, the T-75s in that 212 were nicer perhaps in some ways, because of a different breakup and because there are less speakers to overdrive, so it makes a different distortion at the same amp settings. For rock it wasn't any less good than the Bogner, just different. But, when I unplugged from it I was thinking maybe I *could* live with just the Paradise.

no.

Plugging back into the Uberkab was much more than the volume effect of going from a 212 to a 412. There's just so much more depth and thick focused power. What a speaker cabinet, gee wiz. That's V-30s and T-75s in an X. He puts some water heater blanket in there to kill some noise, too. Whatever. Great results are great results. Makes my 6505+ sound massive and tight and warm. I get fantastic clean sounds. They *are* in there in that amp ya know, not just Van Halen sounds.

But, for death metal-ish sorts of chunky technicality the Uberkab is The Answer.

it seems to inject lead lines with pleasing, warm fluids.

at 3 in the morn, no less.

Not too loud. Post on 2. Both cabs.
6 speakers. That's a 3/4 stack.

Rock.

nice.

I'm probably going to do V30's and 75s in my Sunn 412 Cab which is right now running only 75s. I definitely find that the 75s can get a bit honky in the midrange for high gain stuff. has a nice muscular low end though, and the high end isn't too sharp either. but that honky midrange bugs me. I like to hear a full, rich and present midrange.

might end up ditching the 75s completely and go with a mix of heritage 30s and v30s.

That's probably one of the best cabinets there is. And I know the G75/Vin30 criss cross pattern is great for rock/metal. That's how my Marshall Jubilee cabs are loaded, and I love the Jubilee straight cab with those speakers...huge sounding.

My Bogner Vin30 slant cab sounds sweeter and bouncier, mostly because of the wood and lack of G75's. It doesn't crunch quite as much as the Marshalls.

No matter what people say about a 212 delivering the goods. They're never a match for the same exact thing in a 412. 212's having more mids and boxiness.

I have the V30/G12T-75 mix in my Orange cab. It sounds nice but the top end kind of gets to me. It would probably jive better with a Marshall than a Recto. I'm making change to four G12Ms... just waiting for them to arrive.

One cool thing about the T-75s is the woody rasp they have on palm mutes. I don't really know how to describe it better, but those who use them probably know what I'm talking about.

I still have yet to try Celestion Lead 80's and and G12-65's.

I remember at a NAMM show, Eminence had a display that was like a car audio speaker display, where you could switch through all of them and compare. I'd love to do that with a wall of cabinets, each with a different Celestion, just to have the perfect reference point.

That would be awesome. I'm surprised they don't have anything like that anywhere (that I've heard of).

I wouldn't mind it if Celestion would at least do some better comparison clips.

goodbye you heavy bastard. Nice meetin ya.

this is bigger, fatter, smoother, louder (with the right speaker in it) and I can effortlessly carry it with one hand (except mine's blue w/ black grill), so the Bogner is gone:

My Marshall 4x12 has 4 GT-75's in it. One pair is 25 years old and well broken in, the others are fairly new. When I get a new tube amp and have the $$, I'm thinking about putting some V30's in to replace two of them. Someone a while ago suggested putting I think the 30's on top and the 75's on the bottom. Has anyone tried this in comparison to the X pattern? Any noticeable difference to those who have tried?

What speaker did you put in the Avatar? I'm thinking seriously about getting one of their cabs (probably a 1X12, but maybe a 2x12) and vacillating between the Vintage 30, the G12H30 and the Alnico Blue.

Every post I've seen from you in this room has made me want to buy a new amp/cab/speaker.

I've tried the X pattern and then decided I liked V30 for the top 2, and G12-75T for the bottom. When it's criss crossed, the sound of the cabinet is different from side to side. When it's top/bottom, I can put my favorite sounding speakers on top, then fill in the other frequencies down below where it's more felt than heard. G75T's have deep lows and crunchy highs, so I may not necessarily want that right at ear level.
