American Strat pickups. Did they ever change?

I guess I'm calling on the knowledge of stratheads out there.

Does anyone know if the pickups on the Am Std's (80's-90s) are any different than the ones in the American Series (2000's)? I know they made some changes, especially the rolled edges on the fretboard, but have no idea about the pickups.

For those with extensive trivia knowledge....How many different variations have occured on ALL American Strats from 1954 till now? I'm just talking about the single coil pickups. Anyone know?

Yuppers. The 80's and 90's Am. were pretty much your vintage strat pickup but with a modern stagger and the formed bobbin, not the fiber bobbins that you wrap the wire around the mags. Around 97 or so, they started using more windings go up the output, a hotter bridge pickup, and a modern stagger, while not completly flat, but close. I need help, I'm only 17, I shouldnt know this. LOL :D

Re: American Strat pickups. Did they ever change?

yeah, I forgot that I just read that they made the bridge hotter, just like we all wanted!

Re: American Strat pickups. Did they ever change?

those from my 90 stock were completely flat, and all of them were around 6.00K the ones from my 01 were staggered (dunno modern vintage whatever, but they look vintage to me) and the bridge is hot like 7.20.

In the late sixties the stock pups had a few hundred winds less per pup than the early 60's, at least that's what they claim. Basically the premise for the CS Custom '69 set.

Now they have a slighty different stagger and they did make the bridge louder not any less harsh though. to my ears they sound supper glassy and thin I got my '03 last xmas sounded really new and had a really hard edge to them I felt like i needed to oxidize them or something. frikin weird man
