Amp. Builders -eyelet board questions

I am just getting started with my first build.

I am building a Champ (AA764) layout (with mods by Kevin O'Connor in his book "The Ultimate Tone - Vol 3", page 5-10)

My questions are regarding the eyelet/circuit board.

I have good quality board material that is 2.75 inches by 7.75 " There are no dimensions on the layout diagram apart from the chassis being 12" x 8". I have chosen to use a larger chassis so space is not an issue.

Does 2.75" x 7.75" seem reasonable?

Is there a pattern available anywhere that maps out the correct/relative positions to drill holes for the eyelet board?

I'm following the layout diagram and have decided to allow 7/16" spacing between the eyelets. Should I place the components on the board and then choose the points to drill? (This seems logical but also tedious work) or will I be OK just doing a grid of the board (in the book) and going from there?

Thanks for your help/responses.

I wiil not be able to check the forum until August 5th as I am going away on vacation. I hope that I have provided enough information to get a response.

Sounds reasonable to me. Make sure you get the two main rows close enough to allow for the shorter lead lengths you see on more modern resistors. Even the new Carbon Comp resistors that Mouser sells, while great at what they do, have shorter leads and have problems making the spans on some boards.

My suggestion to everyone else out there is just buy the board with the eyelets installed. They are pretty cheap and they're correct and easy to use.

www.turretboards.com is a good manufacturer of high quality boards. Mojo and WEber sell the old style fiberboards that are excellent and keep that vintage look going.

Dave, call me if you need anything.

Scott F .....Thanks for your response, information and offer to help.

The hotel we are staying in has free internet in the lobby so I couldn't resist checking the forum.

I bought eyelets about a month ago so I'm determined to give this a try.
However, I'll be in touch if things don't go well.

Do you have toll free telephone number ? If not I'll contact you through your site.

Thanks again

Dave

Celtic Amplifiers has a 800 / 888 number?

Why didn't I think of that?

OH, no 800 or 888 number, too bad, my wife, I mean phone doesn't let me dial those 900 numbers anymore.
