Amp expert needed!

I have been trying to figure out this issue for a while now.

As you might have seen, I have been looking for solution to get a somehow clearer sound from my rig and started several thread to this aim lately.

I have been searching on the net and even though there isn't much info I believe the FOD is supposed to be fairly transparent. It is I believe what attracted me in the first place as it was basically giving me extra level of dirt options sympathetic with the voice of my amp.

I start to believe that it is somehow back firing on me. The LC15R produces a fairly fuzzy sound when pushed. And it is what I get plus extra layer of fatness when I turn on the FOD. So could it be that it is the amp that is limiting my palet of sound? Could it be because of the 10" speaker? Lack of headroom?

If I can find some time tomorrow I'll try the FOD with the Marshall to see how it reacts.

Re: Amp expert needed!

when you say 'clear' do you mean 'clean / no distortion/ when playing? Or do you mean more 'clarity' regardless of the amount of distortion?

Also what settings are you using on the amp and POD?

If you want to go cleaner with the POD on, try turnin the output of the POD down, and the output of the amp up. Tho I dont how you'd get a 15watt tube amp to stay clean, 30 watt peavey's and vox's always get dirty early on when I play thru em. I use a schecter with A2Pro's.

Re: Amp expert needed!

I mean clarity regardless of the amount of gain. And this is not a typo, I am talking about the FOD, Fat Overdriveulator from Demeter, not the POD. See link below:

As I said, the amp is fuzzy in the first place. I don't mind that I quite like that. But than, the FOD gets really fuzzy, even in tight mode.

I was just wandering as well, could a change of tubes help a bit?

Re: Amp expert needed!

Right! I just tested the FOD with the Marshall Valvestate.

The Marshall is not brilliant for palm mute but they do come out fairly well. So it was good to be able to compare both circuit coming through the same speaker. And than compare with the sound I get from the FOD in the LC15R.

So, the FOD is definitely not the ultimate palm mute pedal but they do come out less mushy through the Marshall than through the Laney.

With further testing, can't say it was a surprise but for classic rock the FOD produce a juicer sound, which when tweaked correctly are really satisfying. Been playing "Waiting for the bus" as test track :notworthy

Anyway, now the question is, when you are playing through a OD/disto pedal on a clean setting, and you turn the gain and the volume of the pedal up, which part of the amp circuit is put to contribution? I would guess primarily the power tubes and the speaker. So if I want to gain clarity in my rig, that is were I should look for some changes. Hence your advice I presume Viewaskew2k5.

The LC15R I have came with a Celestion Tube10 and El84 power tubes (brandless). So I would like to retain the main character but less prone to fuzzyness... so yes, probably looking for more head room and later break up.

What do you say?
