Amp guru's Help part II

I had to replace a resistor in my Crate V-32.....r-38, its in the power section. The amp is working again but.....whenever I place a wooden probe close to the spot where I did the fix, there is a hum that gets louder the closer you get the probe to the PC board. It did it before I replaced the resistor. Is this a normal phenomenon?

R-38 is the 1k pin 6 feed on the reverb recovery IC?

(sorry...couldn't resist the temptation)

I wish that I could help as this interests me as a 'just past the begiiner stage' electronics hobbyist.

I'm really curious as to what the amp. gurus will tell you.

How long is the wooden probe that you are using? I'm just wondering if you get the same phenomenon with a longer probe (like a chopstick). Probably a dumb thought, but possibly a variable worth the experiment.

so it only makes noise when you put the probe next to it? work fine without probeing?

what type resistor? wooden probe should not make a hum . are you moving a lead wire out of the way when you reach in there? are you wearing a watch on taht hand?

When you tap on the resistor , what happens?

Thanks for all the help...I was using about a 6 inch wooden dowel. I'm at work right now....when I get home, I will check it with a longer dowel and make sure I don't have a watch on. I'm wondering if that IC is bad. :smack:
