Amp not working...

My Orange Tiny Terror suddenly stopped working. The volume just became real quite and a high, constant humming-noise started, hums without pluging the guitar into the amp. Does enybody have a idea what could be wrong??

Re: Amp not working...

Check the output tubes (the big ones) first. 2× EL84 for the Tiny Terror I believe.
Are they glowing? What color? Do they flash?

Re: Amp not working...

The power-tubes are glowing orange in standby, but one turns blue when I sett in a power position. It feels like the blue one gets hotter than the one that glows orange.

Re: Amp not working...

The one that turns blue is the good one (as long as nothing is glowing red). The blue glow is basically a flow/bombardment of electrons.
It's highly adviseable to swap out both tubes for a matched pair though.

Re: Amp not working...

Thanks! I will try to buy a pair as soon as possible.
Whoh...wait a minute.
Did you try the preamp tubes...one at a time.?
What makes you think the power tubes need replacing.? (though you should have a spare pair when money permits)

Re: Amp not working...

Try removing the tubes and spraying the sockets with de-oxit- let it dry overnight and reinstall the tubes

Re: Amp not working...

Check all tubes, but start with pre-amp. My Mesa Rectoverb 25 clean channel crapped out on me this week at a gig (less than 2 months after purchase - luckily the dirt channel got me through the gig). One of the symptoms was a quietness with the sputtering. Next day, I pulled the preamp tubes and it was the second tube in the gain cascade (v2 in Mesa) that was crappy - a quick replacement and everything was back to normal.

Does the Tiny Terror have a loop? If so, plug your guitar into the return, that'll let you know if it's power tube or not.
