Amp Or Not 2 (Poll)

I'll occasionally throw up a clip and see if you can guess if it's a real amp or software amp.

Every clip will have some kind of production on it (read: studio sauce)... so that means that unlike your typical iPhone or straight SM57 on the speaker cone recording, the low end fat will be trimmed and the tone sculpted (as you would in an actual mix).

I'll eventually reveal the answer.

Admittedly, this was my first serious attempt at Brian May tone. I don't think I did a good job representin' this plugin; it's really killer.

Hahaha - for effects, this only has a lil EMT140 plate reverb, and it was doubled (naturally).

I'm always using API preamp, compression, tape and EQing (which are utility).

Tone sounds really good!!

The more like an honest-to-God-cranked-tube-amp-with-beautiful-harmonics-and-perfect-amount-of-overdrive the tone is, the more likely I'm going to say it's modeled. Models really take the guesswork out of that equation.

I think it's software, partly because I don't think you have an amp that does the dimed VOX sound (but could be wrong.). Also I'm hearing a delay between left and right. So is that two performances with latency in the monitors causing the second track to be late? Or did you use an actual delay?

No delay. Manual doubling.

It feels like a real amp because of the close room kind of reverb sound.... But because of the overall smooth, compression and a slight lack of dynamics, I voted software.

This type of tone is not in my wheelhouse at all, so that makes it a little bit difficult for me.

I will note I have been piping these thru my Bose Surround Sound home entertainment system, at levels to also give my neighbors the opportunity to vote.

I can get close to this one (except my playing is like a hack's when compared to LLL's) plugging my cans into my Vypyr VIP 3 and dialing in the British model. So I voted software amp.

I would say not an amp. Something in the attack makes me think that. Tone is a good one though.
