Amp randomly clicking

I was at GC the other day and I was playing one of those (new?) Fender Super-Sonic amps (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-SuperSonic-112-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=480874#new). I was playing this amp in the store, really liking the tone of the whole thing, when out of no where, the amp clicks loudly (extremely loud, as in the employes come over to check if everything is alright). I turn down the volume on the amp quite a bit, just in case it does it again I don't want to be kicked off the amp. Another few seconds of playing, it clicks again, and just as loud. I decide to stop playing the amp, and when I flip the switch, I hear the same exact pop as the amp is turning off as a result of the switch.
I was wondering if there is anyway to fix the popping sound in the store, because I was thinking about getting this amp, but I'm not able to try it out for more that a minute before it pops. Also, if I bought the amp, would the new amp be prone to getting one of these popping problems too?

Re: Amp randomly clicking

Most likely a failing preamp tube or something. At worst a filter capacitor.

Don't buy that one. GC has plenty of them. They can do a inter store transfer from another GC, or you could just go buy the amp at Sherman Oaks GC or even Best Buy in Northridge. Or, keep checking Craigslist and find one for around $750.

Did you have any effects hooked up? If so, it could be a patch cable or power supply cable....I had it happen to me a couple of months ago at a gig and it took me 15 minutes to sort the mess out.

Yeah, I always make sure to buy a new one, or at least one that works. If its a failing preamp tube, I'm guessing they won' let me fix it in their store (or will they?). I'll probably end up going to the GC in Hollywood and trying out the amp there, and if I like it, I'll find a used one.

Just guitar>amp. I tried the cable and guitar on a few different amps, so I know it couldn't of been either of those. Maybe I could swap the power chord with a different amp there. I've swapped a chord once with a 50 watt amp and a 75 watt amp, and nothing bad happened. Is there any chance swapping the power chord could mess up anything?

I was referring to the power for effects....sorry, I didn't explain myself very well.

I would take Joneser's advice....he is very knowledgeable about such things.

Being that the amp was a Fender, did it have a tremolo circuit? Sometimes the photo cell in the tremolo circuit is the culprit, especially in older Fenders, next would be coupling caps or shunting caps in the same stage of the amp circuit.

Nope, just 1 guitar input, although it did have reverb. I'm just going to wait and see if I can try it out at GC Hollywood, thanks for the info everyone!
