amp reccomendations

hello,
I apologize in advance, I'm sure this question gets asked all the time, but I need some help here.
I'm looking for a good amp <= $500. I play mostly rock/alt stuff so I want something with a good clean channel as well as good sounding distorted/OD channel.

What would you guys reccomend? thank you!

Re: amp reccomendations

Yeah, Peavey Classic, or Delta Blues.

Re: amp reccomendations

New or used? If you're willing to go 'used', try a Fender Hot Rod DeVille (60 watts).....either of the 2x12 or the 4x10 versions are fine. They run around $500 used, and have a good bit of headroom on the clean channel, and sound decent in the overdrive channel(s).........actually, 1 OD channel with an additional footswitchable 'More Gain' stage. You get reverb, effects loop, and an external speaker jack to boot. Check it out.

The Peavey Classic's OD has always sounded too gritchy or buzzy to me, but tons of guys use them. Plus, I'm a bit biased towards Fender when it comes to 'clean'.

Enjoy your search,
Mike

Re: amp reccomendations

Welcome to the board. The Fender Hot rod series (used) is one of the best buys out there for sure.

For about 500-600 bucks you can often find used Rivera Knucklehead 55's out there on Ebay. But then you'd need a 2x12 cab as well. But that amp has Fendery cleans on one channel and Marshall Plexi grind on the other. Truly a Fender and a Marshall in one box.
