Can anyone recommend a good place to take a tube amp for repairs in Southern NH or Massachusetts?

Re: Amp Repair in Southern NH or Massachusetts

The absolute best place is AZ Tech in Watertown. If you take your amp to a music store they will most likely ship it out to AZ Tech. Go direct and deal with them face to face. Tom has been repairing amps for decades and does the amps for most of the major acts in the area. He is priced very fair and backs his work. He just got done with my JCM 2000 and my Fender Silverface is there now. He has been on vacation and should be back on Monday. I would imagine he is going to be swamped, so expect a wait. If you want you amp done right he is the guy.

ive known people that have used them too. i live in albany and we have a good shop in parkway music that does their own work. i also have a buddy who is the best amp tech in the area but youre probably closer to boston than albany

Its a Fender Blues Deville. I had it repaired at a local place a few years ago and it blew a tube a few weeks later. I didnt use it for a couple years after that. I recently tried replacing the tubes myself but now the amp has a constant static and most of the pots are noisy.

The pots might have gotten dirty from sitting around for a couple of years. I would still let Tom take a look at it. The static and blowing tubes could be a condition of a bigger issue. Sound like exactly what my Quad was doing after I let it sit for a while, then it started to throw voltage at me. Tom is repairing the Quad right now and adding an additional cap to my bright switch to allow more hi-mids to pass when it is engaged.

Buddy, you & I are pretty much F***** in that department! At least you live in the southern part of the state, I live in Berlin and I own 9 valve amps, half of which will need servicing soon & there is absolutely nobody who wants to even touch them for 150 miles in any direction! The closest place to me is Dover, I forget the name of the place but they are supposed to be pretty good & I can get it for you if you need it!

For us it's not so much a question of whether someone can recommend a good amp tech? It's more like can I find a amp tech @ all??? I'm going to be shipping my 70+LB unpackaged VOX AC-30 out sometime soon & to get it to the tech I want it to go to & back it's going to cost me roughly $260 just for shipping & insurance, about $130 each way after I get it boxed up??? If someone were to open up a small amplifier shop someplace in the middle of the state and they knew what they were doing I think they could make a killing!!! There's absolutely no competition so they would basically have a monopoly on tube amp repairs and modifications across the state & including large parts of ME & VT?

It would be easier for you to find a good tech in Montreal.

Re: Amp Repair in Southern NH or Massachusetts

It seems to be hard to find good amp or guitar techs in NH. It seems like whenever I ask someone who they take their guitars or amps to they're trying to find someone too because the tech they took their stuff to just retired or died.

Where did you go before? Have you tried Michael - Charles music in Rochester? not sure if they're still there or not but they were pretty good a couple years ago before I moved to AZ. I know Earcraft Music didnt work on amps. And if they did they werent that good lol.

One of the best guitar techs in the country is Pat DiBurro in Exeter.
