Amp shopping for pops

Hey guys

Doing some birthday shopping for my dad. He's had an old univox solid state since the 70's and she finally kicked the bucket. He's about to go into retirement and move to Florida so no more borrowing my stuff.

He's playing with a 70's fender mustang. We're working with about $150-$175
-Must be light weight (generally)
-Doesn't have to be loud, he's just jammin'
-reverb and trem are a plus, nothing too fancy. no multi-fx
-must be a combo

Thanks guys! Haven't had to shop in this price range in a while, just looking to see if someone has some better ideas than me

Re: Amp shopping for pops

In this pricerange, there is always the obvious Roland Cube and Vox Valvestate series that are very, very good amps. Any one of those you can find on your pricerange will be great.

One I also like a lot is the traynor DynaGain. It's nice, has reverb, and has 2 channels, through a 10 inch celestion (generic celestion, but it sounded good). Check that out also.

Re: Amp shopping for pops

I do like the roland micro cubes as well as the vox. I'm leaning a little more toward the vox just for name sake. My dad has been one of those play for years drop it for years kind of players. Having a name like vox or fender might make him a little happier even with sacrifice of some features.

thanks for the suggestions guys, Im still open for ideas

Re: Amp shopping for pops

All good suggestions. I'd second the G-Dec just because it's so fun jamming along to it. The built-in drum and bass tracks can be all the incentive I need sometime to pick up the guitar and play.
