Amp suggestions...

I have a DSL 100h and I play lots of shows, but for the really crappy shows that are short or lame I'm looking for a good combo amp so I don't always have to lug the big guy around... Any suggestions on a good combo amp?

A DSL 40C... problem solved

Seriously though, I assume you're looking for sound comparable to you DSL 100, so the next question would be, What's you budget?

Re: Amp suggestions...

What about the DSL15C or H? Egnater Rebel 30 1X12 combo? Randall Diavlo RD45? Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 or 36? (My favorite of the four).

Or how about the Roland Cube 80? I've been strictly a tube amp guy for years. My current two tube heads are a Splawn Quickrod and Friedman Smallbox. But I bought a Cube 80XL this year at a pawn shop for $200 and I LOVE IT. I always use it for band practice and only drag the tube rigs out for gigs. But I would have NO problem gigging the Cube... and I never thought I'd say that again about a non-tube amp. Another suggestion is above your dollar amount, but the new Yamaha THR100 heads sound AWESOME from the clips I've heard (check them out on Sweetwater's site). I've got the THR100 on my short list of future amps to acquire, because it's small and sounds great. A perfect backup! And probably even a perfect primary gigging amp. It's taking all of my self-control not to just grab one of those on the Sweetwater site at the two-years, no-interest Sweetwater card deal. I would have done it over the weekend if I wasn't on the hook for the Friedman and an Anderson Classic strat. Just too much debt for me to be comfortable tacking more on. But I WILL have a THR at some point.

Can the Cube series be used to power an external cab? One of those through a 2X12 should sound just fine.

Good question (and point). Yes and no. From what I've seen, the newer GX series doesn't have a speaker-out. The older X and XL (like mine) do have the speaker out. I run mine into a V30-loaded 4X12 at home. But I also just take the combo to band practice and use that by itself and it sounds great. In fact, I've never had it above like 10:00 on the volume. It's more than loud enough by itself.

Re: Amp suggestions...

Just wondering because the first amp I ever bought, which I sadly no longer have, was a Ross combo with a closed back 1X12 80 Watt SS. It was loud. It also had an ext. speaker jack. I can only imagine the 80 watt Roland would sound massive through a 4X12.
