AMP TECHS - Can a coupler be used to extend speaker wire?

A friend of mine gave me a coupler and told me it could be used to extend any 1/4" cable INCLUDING SPEAKER CABLE FROM AMP TO CAB!

Is this true?

I don't wanna fry my tranny's without asking first if this is safe.

Yes, he said it was a Female to Female coupler or connector

REALLY?

You sure?

This would be a life saver for me in using a couple of combo shells I like to use with heads - ie a Budda and Bogner 2x12 Shell that sound great but have existing wire that are short (meant for the amp inside the combo)

I use a female-female 1/4" coupler on occasion when using my Orange head with my Marshall 1x12 as a cab, and have never had an problems :)

are you talking about hard wiring a female 1/4" jack the the combo amp, in order to connect it to a cabinet? because that should work fine. if you're coupling two speaker cables together, that should be fine too. although if this is the case, it would be ideal just to have a longer speaker cable. but as long as the connection is secure, it should be fine.

It's cool so long as the coupler's jacks are physically sound. The more securely they hold the plug, the safer you'll be.
