Is installing amplitube 3 and asio driver and using guitar via microphone jack alright to get some ok sounds for home practise?

Re: Amplitube 3

No, you need a line in jack, not a microphone jack.

A pedal (any pedal) can help you get the right impedance. I run an overdrive (Tube Screamer clone) into a line in on my computer.

You just missed a crazy sale on Peavey's Revalver 3. That one blows away Amplitube.

Re: Amplitube 3

Most laptops don't have a separate line-in so the mic-in is the only option. It'll work, just set the level appropriately for the incoming signal.

Re: Amplitube 3

Is the "static noise" heard at all times, or only when you play loud notes? If you only hear this when you play, you probably need to bring your guitar volume down a bit to avoid clipping the sound card input on your computer. (Digital clipping is nasty static - not at all like tube or even transistor clipping.)

Either turn down the volume at your guitar, or turn down the gain if you're going through a pedal.

If that doesn't solve it, a better description of your signal chain would help.

Re: Amplitube 3

It is heard at all time, when i turn up the noise gate is stops when i do not play, but when i play it starts again, my signal chain is just my guitar threw the cable to the input jack. Static also happens when i play clean, same thing in guitar rig 5 :P HELP???

If you don't have a line in jack, you need an interface that has one. Plain and simple.

And again, not all computers (especially a lot of laptops) have a dedicated line-in jack but a mic-in jack that also works as line-in. You just have to set the gain of the input to the right level.

To me it sounds like the input level on the computer is set too high. Go in to Control Panel and look at the sound devices. Check the level for the mic/line input.

I use Amplitube on my iPhone and was getting some light static noise like that. Turns out it was from powering the phone through one of the USB ports on the computer. The noise went away when I unplugged it.
