Amps with windows...

So I'm busy poking about inside my Carvin Legacy and a thought occurred to me when I'm putting the amp back together.

What if I removed the front wooden panel and replaced it with with a Plexiglas "window" (or some other durable clear plastic) and then put in the wire grille (without the logo) over that?

Yeah it would look cool... but it would also make peeking inside the amp to check the tubes a breeze.

Is this something i can do myself? Where do i get materials for this?

I can get plexiglas sheeting at home Depot, and other than that you only need a drill, screwdriver and Hot-glue gun ...

Actually a pretty simple DIY mod if you´re only wanting to change the panels...if you want to put the whole thing in plexi it get´s more intense fast ;)

Re: Amps with windows...

its what i'm gonna do when i build a head enclosure for the laney!!

and maybe a red neon inside :D

Peeking inside to check on the tubes? What are they acting up? Staying out late? Abusing the neighbors cat? :)

Re: Amps with windows...

Ohhhh you are such a copy cat haha. Listen man, DON"T use hot glue, it won't last at all. Now here's what you do......take the wood that you want to replace out and cut the plexiglass to the same shape. The plexi does not have to be as this as the wood, since it's very expensive to get thicker stuff and if your putting the grill on it, that will keep it sturdy. Take the cut plexi, put the grill on it and I would suggest the emblem because you can hide the light behind it, which will mean you won't have to see the actual light, just the light emitted. Put the light wherever you want, take a marker and make the wires black if they aren't already, you don't want them to show. Then put the inverter and wires as far in the back as you can. You will have to wire the inverter to a wall wart since they have a computer connector. Get a 12v 500 to 1000ma wall wart. With you having all tubes, it may give you some hum but I don't know. Copycat:smokin:

Yeah... my neightbors are kind of mad. Unless their pet Calico can find a way to internally process all it's metabolic wastes for the next few weeks I could be in a lot of trouble.

Dude... i hate to tell you this but i totally erased all the stuff i was using to work on your album cover. I had it stored in the same file i keep my Smurf/Sub-Dom/Gerbil Porn in, so being a batch of prog-rock album cover art it was kinda easy to confuse when I deleted it.

Oh yeah... I have an all-tube amp. Those light up by themselves.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: Seriously, thanks for all the help, guys. Keep it comin!

Dude of course I'm kidding... hahaha!!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: Just kidding around, man.

To tell you the truth I didn't read your gear post that much... just looked at the pic mainly but I thought that grille on the H&K was open-air, not backed with Plexiglas. Plus I'm too lazy to go to the trouble of backlighting ANYTHING.
