An old topic...looking for a good recommendation for a LP

I have an early '70s Les Paul deluxe that has been routed for a bridge hum. It came with an old '59 in it, which I didn't care for. I put in a PG and I find it too bright in this guitar. This is a sandwich body Paul and heavy. I am looking for a very warm and fat pickup that does not have an overabundance of high end. I am playing this guitar through a Boogie MkIII and I play everything from rockabilly to metal. However, with the Paul it is mostly classic rock and metal.

Suggestions?

I agree, if you're looking at SD the A2Pro fits your bill; it's their warmest PAF.

However, you might want to consider the Gibson 490 series, as they are warmer and thicker than comparable Duncans, IME. I'm sure someone with Dimarzio experience can suggest something from their line as well.

those sandwich body lp dlx's can be tricky guitars to get right. i might try a custom custom. fat and round which should balance nicely with your heavy guitar.

of the 490 series, you dont want the 490R or 490T, if you didnt like the 59 these wont be much different. the 496R wouldnt be a good choice, its ceramic and not wound very hot. the 498T would be the only one that i think you might like but i think a cc would be a better place to start

Custom Custom, eh? Maybe I will try that. I may also consider the other choices.

What about a '78 in this guitar? Any thoughts on that?

If you want to spend the money get a brobucker and never ever take it out!!!!!!

Other wise a C5(SH-14?)
