aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost

Re: aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost

Ahh so nice to hear that I wasnt wrong to think that treble booster is not a thing of the past, GL used it ? Wow, even better. What do you think of these ones?

http://www.treblebooster.net/

There are LOADS of Treble boosters out ther right now...some great and some terrible!!!

I have not tried the BSM boxes but they really have broken it down into a lot of different boxes. I like the Beano a lot, I tried several before I decided I had the one!

As for Lynch, he once said this in an interview...I got it from Analogman.com

"The European version of the first record which is out of print, has the sound. When I played on that record, all it was was an old Marshall head, an old Super 100 Marshall cabinet with a cane front, and a Rangemaster Treble Booster which Ritchie Blackmore uses. They don't make it anymore. That's how I recorded that record, and it's actually the best tone I've ever had. Terrible-sounding record- it's a horrible mix, and the vocals are too loud, but the original tone on the first record is really cool.
The American version is not as good. They remixed it and added some bits. After doing six records, that was the best tone I ever had, and I would love to go back and get that tone."

CONGRATS my friend !!! :beerchug:

I love my Sunlion & I know you're gonna love the mix of a FF w/the Beano :bigthumb:

To the guy with the Bad Bob: I use one of them TOO & it is different enough to warrant both, esp. run together with a Dirty Dan :D

Re: aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost

Is the Rangemaster also what Brian May uses through his AC-30's to get that violin type tone? Lew

Re: aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost

Its decided I am gettin T-boost next as far as my pusher-stomps go. I love the 70s tones of Blackmore ans Iommi and thanks to Christian I've just learned GL himself refered to his best tone ever as a T-boosted brit amp - its decided I dont know which it is going to be AM or BSM but its on. Here is some cool info from BSM on OG T-booster tones.

The BSM HS model is based on the British HORNBY-SKEWES unit produced between 1967 and 1969, as used by Ritchie Blackmore, the brilliant and impulsive guitarist of Deep Purple. The unit produces a powerful and biting sound that was used to help create the epochal masterpieces e.g. "Deep Purple In Rock" and "Fireball". The long yearned for new edition, now issued under the name HS from BSM, includes the same germanium transistors as the the original 1967 version. The HS-Custom model includes a volume control (like Blackmore's modification). When dialed about halfway, you will achieve Blackmore's sound on the Deep Purple album e.g. "Machine Head", "Burn" and early Rainbow records.

Brian May from Queen used in his early days the British Range Master Germanium Treble Booster, a unit produced between 1965 and 1969. This model is rebuild as RM by BSM. In mid-phase from Queen, BrianMay switched to a silicon Treble Booster design for more bite, now reproduced by BSM with orginal silicon transistor and called BM-Q special. The same unit fitted with volume control called BM-Q.

The BSM RM-Metal model is based on the British Range Master unit produced between 1965 and 1969, as used by Eric Clapton in John Mayall╢s Bluesbreakers. Eric also used the booster when playing in the legendary group Cream. Its biting, powerful sound is clearly in evidence on the Bluesbreakers "Beano" album. Blues rocker Rory Gallagher, Heavy Rock pioneer Tony Iommi and Brian May from Queen were also heavy users of the orginal Range Master unit. The long yearned for new edition, now issued under the name RM from BSM, includes the same OC44 germanium transistors as the the original 1965 version. The RM Metal is a modified `69er RM model like Mr. Iommi╢s unit, which he has used on his second Black Sabbath records and later. The RM Metal model is recommed for Nu-Rock, low dropped tunings and baritone guitars.

Holly Poo !!!!
" In June of 2001 Mr. Iommi's guitar tech Mike Clement told me that Tony was looking for another Dallas Rangemaster as his was lost years ago. I did not have any to sell, so I offered to make him a clone, our first BEANO BOOST. Last I heard he has it in his home studio along with our Chorus and a modified TS9 tube screamer. The original Dallas Rangemasters are selling for very high prices, last ones I have seen go in the $1000 range. "

Re: aNaLoG.MaN Beano Boost

However, is it also the same thing all over Cream's Wheels Of Fire album?
I hate that sound. Weird, transistor-y artifact all over it.

This one gets depated all the time but I thin kit is...if you crank a Rangemaster WAY up you get a strange effect that for sure sounds like a transitor but does not sound like a fuzz tone...quite strange. My beano boost does it but it can be set lower and it won't do it...I guess thats what Eric was looking for?

YEP! The very first Beano Boost wsa made for and sold to Tony Iommi!!! It's also worthi mentioned that Mike put that on his site a while back and original Rangemasters have gone up, again since then!! Teh last one I saw on Ebay was VERY clean in the box (it looked to be NOS but it wasn;t being sold as such) and it brought almost 2k!

You know what sound I'm talking about, right?

Really evident on the end solo of "White Room" and also the "Deserted Cities Of The Heart" solo.
