Anyone have much experience with Anderson pickups? What type of magnets do the H3 series humbuckers use and what is the approximate output level if you know?

The H3's are the hottest and I believe they have a Ceramic. I've heard them compared to something along the lines of a Distortion in terms of output.

Don't quote me on this.

Re: Anderson Pickups

I think they're Ceramic mag as well. I know that this pup was designed to test out Mesa Boogies. I think EX-250 has one in his Viper.

Re: Anderson Pickups

I have one (H3) in my G-400 and i friggin LOVE it!!!! great dynamic distrotion, good clean sound, nice and tight and punchy . . . . as far as outputs and magnets?? I don't know, I DO know that its the most squeal free bridge bucker I have

Re: Anderson Pickups

Interesting, sounds like a great humbucker but I'm really looking for something with an alnico magnet right now. How are the cleans on the anderson though?

Re: Anderson Pickups

Anderson makes a bunch of pickups. I'm thinking the HO series may be AlNico. The H series is ceramic, and the HN series is neodymium. Anderson can tell you.

Guitar Heaven sells Seymour Duncan as well as Anderson. I will not put a direct linky to the Anderson page, out of respect...

I love my H1 and H3.

The HN2+ has a 1970's metal tone to it:

Re: Anderson Pickups

Thanks for the great links. This is becoming a tough decision....as choosing pickups always is. I'll send Anderson an email and ask about the HO's. If they are alnico I might just have to give it a try. I'll let you guys know what the response is.

Re: Anderson Pickups

Indeed the HO series uses alnico magnets. They are designed to be vintage style, but an HO2+ is a possibility right now.

Re: Anderson Pickups

the H3s are ceramic. i forget specifically what, but theres something special done with the spacing of the magnets and stuff that make em sound different. ill look it up later, i think i still have the email from them.

Re: Anderson Pickups

EX-250 and all...

The beauty of the H3 is that the ceramic magnet is placed VERTICALLY between the tall coils.

MY 2 cent opinion:

From an inductive perspective, this is brilliant! A vertical magnet between the coils allows a "split" humbucker pickup to be fully influenced by a full size magnet (Anderson pickup coils are VERY tall vertically).

Standard humbucker designs are rather pissy sounding as a whole, when "split", as the "split" humbucker is not only weakened by the "coil split"...but the magnetic power underneath the remaining coil is reduced yet again by the offset magnet

Many thanks to web-bro eX-250, for turning me onto Anderson pickups in the first place.

I really hate to sound like a total anus, but the fact is (IMHO)...the two sentence tone descriptions of Anderson pickups from the Anderson website, and parroted on dealer sites like Guitar Heaven...are accurate...and describe the tone as concisely as humanly possible. I am often surprised that Anderson has offered such a wide range of tones, considering the actual user base of moneyed clients. Anderson offers mild/vintage/hot/wild/wild-plus pickups .

SEYMOUR HAS ONE HUGE ADVANTAGE:

Seymour offers a "21 Day Trial Period" through authorized dealers. This is great!

Re: Anderson Pickups

I have recently moved over to using Anderson guitars pretty much exclusively. I have VA2 single coils and an H2+ in one guitar. Another has the H0- in the neck and a TD3+ bridge. My other Anderson has 2 SA2 noiseless singles and an H3 bridge

I have never been happier with pickups on any guitars in my life.

Re: Anderson Pickups

Yeah I finally just gave up and bought the H3+ for my Gothic SG. I am going to take it to this luthier when I finally get the time (hopefully this weekend). Then try it out on the Boogie and see how it sounds.

Re: Anderson Pickups

Sweet! Good, bad, or ugly...let us know how it sounds! I had a hard time deciding between the H3 and the H3+ myself.
