Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

the main difference would be that the angeled humbucker will pick-up the strings at slightly different positions. more towards the neck on the bass strings and more towards the bridge on the high strings, in comparison to a straight bridge humbucker.

that being said, i like straight pickups more.

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

Also, a standard spaced pup can be angled so the strings are "more covered" by the polepieces. I've never noticed an audible problem with incorrect spacing on a bucker anyway, though.

You're Steve Vai, I thought you would have known! :lmao:

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

I think EVH angled his standard spaced bridge humbucker for the reason Jestor700 stated: To get the high E and Low E over at least one polepiece!

With a Trembucker you wouldn't need to angle it.

And I DO hear a big diffference in the high E and low E if they are not over the polepieces.

They sound weaker if they are not and when I bend the high E I can hear it get louder as I pull it over the polepiece when I've used standard spaced humbcuker for a bridge pickup in a Strat.

When Seymour says: "Get your E strings back" when he's talking about the Trembuckers he's telling the truth.

Not everyone can hear that improvement...but it's real.

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

Again, i don't understand why the trembuckers are not stated as regular spacing and the regular spacing as - lets say - "G(ibson) spacing or something.
A lot of guitars which are equipped with new humbuckers are strats, strat-like etc...
In the music shops here (Germany) i never have been asked what spacing i need, neither they usually have trembuckers in stock. When i first heard of them i already bought Duncans for 5 years...then i thought they are only needed for floyd-rose-guitars...

Angled is 'soooo 80's' hahaha Lew's right, get a tremspaced humbucker.

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

So what if you angled a trem spaced Humbucker :22:

Re: Angled Bridge Humbuckers vs. Straight Bridge Humbuckers

Angled humbucker slots were all the rage in the 80s before Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan came up with F-spacing & the Trembucker series respectively. This came about after the introduction of floyd-rose bridges which had slightly wider string spacing.

Trembuckers/F-spaced pickups do make an audible difference. There is a certain 'fullness' to notes and no drop in volume especially when the high E-string is played.

Gibson introduced the Humbucker to the marketplace, which is why "Gibson spacing" is considered standard. :burnout:
