Another amp question

Between the Line 6 Spider ll 112 and the Randall RG75G2 (both 75 watts) which one provides a better metal tone? It's just down to these two amps now.

i would say randall. the line 6 has more versatility but the randall will give you rip your face off metal. just my 2 cents.

I know the Vox Valvetronix amps look retro, but the Recto setting on it is one of the best metal tones you can find, especially if you get the head/cab, not combo.
Those AD60 and 120 heads are cheap too, especially used.

Randall amps have a reputation for being metal amps. I can't really speak for the Line 6 Spider.

If you're gonna play with a band - Neither.

1x12's don't cut it in metal imo, you're gonna want a minimum of a 2x12 otherwise you're just gonna sound thin.

I'm not in a band yet, I just want a decent sized amp to play that actually sounds good. I'm still using a Fender Frontman 15G and it sounds like total crap when I try to jam, even with my Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup that I just got installed.

And speaking on behalf of my line6 spider I 1x12 50watt... it sucks.

And I remember people hear saying the SpiderII is even worse.

The recto setting on the Vox is good. I wouldn't say it's super close to the real thing, but does sound nice.

The Spider II's metal setting is very good too..very "Recto-ish" and IMO better than the Vox (not as grainy or fizzy in the top end). Barring the clean tones, I thought it was the best model on the spider IIs.

The Randall has some SERIOUS gain. The Randall also has the benefit of a mostly closed cabinet which will give ya more low end chunk. And it includes the footswitch.

I'd prolly go Randall from those two choices. But I'd also look into a Peavey Bandit II in the same price range as the Randall. Def good for Metal, and ultimately a little more versatile than the Randall as it has better voicing options, tons of gain (and can do low gain crunch too, which the Randall is hard pressed to accomodate) a "power attentuator", and speaker damping control. 80 watts.

I think I've decided to go with the Spider ll for the Recto metal sound. I guess it will do fine until the day I can actually afford the real thing. Thanks again.
